I live in England and I don't pay any back.  Not even sure how much I owe them anymore.

I fell in the lowest income bracket and the cunts took £5000 in grants off me, so I'm trying to take ten.

They don't know where I live, plus I'm self-employed and there doesn't seem to be much communication between the loans service and the inland revenue.  Normally they just wack it on to peoples NI contributions.  Alot of people say they give up after 8-10 years.  Here's hoping :)

At the start of April ask your employer for a P60.  This details your earnings and tax payments for the year and thye are legally obliged to give it to you, although virtually none do unless you ask.  Send your P60 off to the Inland Revenue and they will calculate the amount you have over-payed and send you a cheque.  If you need any info just ask someone in your payroll department.

The first £4500 you earn each year you pay no tax on, and then the next grand or so you only pay 10%.  Most people don't know this though, or that they're entitled to money back, so the government keeps their money.

It isn't always true that people have paid too much, but most of the time it happens.

I'm a cricket coach. So works obviously restricted to the summer, but I can't think of many better jobs (for a student). I'll probably get about £1100 from about 110 hours work this summer. Could do mor if I wanted, but I'd rather spend time doing other things.

Very jealous!  Doing something you enjoy, and earning a very decent wage for it is a dream, would love to coach football or any sport for that matter for any kind of wage!  Unfortunately, I'm the one that needs coaching....   8)

If you've only earned £7,000 (gross) since 6 April 2004 - you should have only paid income tax for the year of £253 so you can claim the rest back! :D

It'll give you your total gross earnings and tax paid in your March wage slip so you don't have to wait for your P60 cos your employer doesn't have to give you that 'til 19 May.

You need to complete this form and send it to your tax office after 5 April(you don't need to send any wage slips or p60 with it cos the Inland Revenue already know how much tax you've paid)

http://www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/forms/r40.pdf

You can find out what tax office you are by the three digit number that is on your wageslip before the tax reference

you can find the address here:

i earn HK$ 675,000 p.a.
or HK$1,875 per day (based on 30 days in a month, 12 months in a year.)

it ain't that much, believe me, i deserve much more and after the 3 women in my house have thrown it about there's not much left for big daddy.

I just got a bonus of CHF 35,000 but that doesn't mean too much as Zurich is apparently the 4th most expensive city in the world (5th if you include rent because London rents are so high) (out of 71 cities in the survey).

Top 3 are Oslo, Copenhagen and Tokyo. Hong Kong 15th apaprently, but HKR may have a different opinion on that.

Depends what you are looking for. If you want a big city with vibrant nightlife, numerous entertainment opportunities and good shopping for the average Joe then it's a waste of time. If you want a relaxed place with high quality of life, a beautiful setting, easy access to the mountains and excellent luxury shopping - Zurich's your place.

Wouldn't spend more than half a day here as a tourist though.

i'm very surprised at that, especially considering how much my landlord stashes away each month.
i also heard that hk people are low on the earnings list too!! that is a big surprise.
but this is a place of around 1,000km and 7 million people, 70% of whom are relatively poor. the rest are very well off though and there are some super-duper fat cats in this town - nearly 300,000 millionaires...

i'm not one of them though...yet.

Presumably those are HK$ millionaires?

That is the same survey - published by UBS. I was quoting the list excluding rent though. Both Hong Kong and London are much more expensive if you add in the rent.
