Title: Opportunity on Saturday
Post by: Panda Paws on Monday, April 23, 2007, 23:33:12
Dunno whether this is worthy of a new thread hey ho.........

Saturday is a massive opportunity for anyone traveling to rovers to make our feelings regarding the potential ground share perfectly clear, and therefore think we need to be as vocal as possible before the game and during half time, politely (or not) informing the rovers board they can stick their groundshare up their arse

I can't go on Saturday because I be working. But I have a concern about anti-rovers protests. Mainly the fact I'm not really that against it and I'm scared it's going to get lumped in as something that all pro-consortium people are supposed to be against.

Just my concerns anyway.

for the right price i would not be totally against it but at the moment i feel the negatives far outweigh any positives..........just out of interest does anyone know if the trust or any other fans groups have been consulted yet, and what the view from the trust is??

What would people's reaction be if it was announced that there would be a £2 a ticket reduction as a result of Groundshare ?

Everyone's got a price .....

(I know prices have been announced but they could still be changed)

Don't give them ideas - I am against a ground share whatever bribe they may offer, it will not only ruin the pitch for us but could be a massive own goal in terms of a ground redevelopment and getting public support for this.

Nah I'd still be against sharing. Especially with Rovers

I'm not all that keen on the grounshare idea myself after the home game against rovers but in my opinion one of the only good things going for the idea is that it would surely AID any re-development plans as it shows how vital having a football club is??

I'm still unconvinced that it can work though and it definately wont work if we both stay down or go up either way......we'd have to be in different leagues or we'd have the home game trouble every saturday!

The more important question for me is what would Rovers ticket prices be like compared to ours?  We could certainly lose out on a few floating fans if they are charging less and have a more interesting season say.

Well the assumption is, they would be cheaper for bristol rovers as they are in league two and touch wood we are in league one. Fact is we pay rent for some where we only use 30 times a year tops. If that could go upto 60 with rent stayin the same and rovers sorting out their own coppers. that would be fanatstic for the sustainability of the STFC.

Tbh Fred, I don't think that's a big consideration anymore. Look at teams like Reading, who have that weird game with the egg shaped thing played on their pitch, didn't stop them from walking the Championship last season.

If it can be done with the agreement of the Council, residents and Police and, if the brizzle inbreds can behave, I haven't really got a problem with it.

It would create more revenue for our club and surely that would be a good thing?

We could put all the prices up in the Winners and the kiosks when they play

Yes, but Reading invested heavily in the complete ground and pitch and have a full time dedicated groundsman.

We don't unfortunately, and I would be fucking flabbergasted if the same investment and infrastructure was adopted here

From this evenings Adver

"There were violent clashes when the two teams met at the County Ground in December. Shoppers looked on as police got to grips with 40 fans in a brawl outside the Bedroom bar in Bridge Street."

"Trouble with Bristol Rovers fans also flared at the Queens Tap pub, opposite Swindon railway station, in March last year.

Their supporters stopped off in the town when their game against Oxford United was cancelled and smashed windows at the pub."

Not wishing to appear a NIMBY, but every other week the town centre will be a battlefield - FACT

No thank you very much

Is it ok if I bring my newly made

"Welcome to our home - Rovers Brothers" banner in support of the ground share?

We need to make sure that they are made to feel welcome and that they are wanted in our town!!

Who's with me?

Someone mentioned earlier in the thread about paying rent but not using the ground, well our rent payment is based on our turnover as I understand it.  So the less we make, the less we pay.

Another point that was made to me on saturday is that if and when we re-develop or build a new ground, we might also need a groundshare.
So it might be a case of needs must....fwiw i dont want wovers here full stop!!!

I know that someone posted on here before regarding over hearing Mike Bowden telling some people at Speedway that the ground share was a go go but has anyone else heard of him actually announcing the proposed ground share over the P.A System before the speedway last week? i.e telling 'Swindon Town fans' that it was 80-20 in our favour and the sum of money that we would receive as part of the deal.

This is simply what i was told tonight at work by someone who was told by a Speedway regular, obviously i can't say it's a fact as i wasn't there.

A thought that crossed my mind as well.

I think after the events of today, the current Board should think long and hard about the deal on the table and make sure they consider FULLY the implications of ground sharing with Rovers. Otherwise they are on the fast track to pissing off the majority of fans, the Council and local residents and may jeopardise any future ground development (regardless of who is in control).

On the balance of evidence for and against, right now I am opposed to it.

Dont give a fuck about wovers....we dont want them here now full stop.

I'd have loved it if Bowden and Starnes could actually witness what its like to be attacked by Rovers - thay have no idea and as was said else where, will pass yesterday off as isolated incidents whilst they were very comfy in the director's box.
