Title: I am going CD shopping tomorrow Post by: sonicyouth on Thursday, March 10, 2005, 15:18:01 because it's my birthday, and my kindly parents, friends and family have given me some money. I've got a bit of a shopping list so far, but I want some recommendations :D
So far, I have: Roots Manuva - Awfully Deep (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0006VXG86/ref=ord_cart_shr/202-6511687-1903823?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE) Rough Trade Shops - Indiepop Vol. 1 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0002SF76M/qid=1110467587/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl/202-6511687-1903823) The Wedding Present - George Best (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000020R/qid=1110467645/sr=8-2/ref=pd_ka_1/202-6511687-1903823) I've been listening to Braintax a lot lately, so wouldn't mind checking out some more stuff on the Lowlife label. I might get Jehst - Falling Down or Skinnyman - Council Estate of Mind but I'm not sure, they any good? Any other recommendations are welcome pleasethanks. (by the way, I'm going to be on Radio 6music next week) Title: I am going CD shopping tomorrow Post by: janaage on Thursday, March 10, 2005, 15:20:20 Bring 'em in - Mando Diao. Excellent debut album, every song is superb. Trust me.
Title: I am going CD shopping tomorrow Post by: sonicyouth on Thursday, March 10, 2005, 15:22:56 What sort of music is it? Recommend me a tune and I shall try and sample it :d
Title: I am going CD shopping tomorrow Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Thursday, March 10, 2005, 15:29:35 Council estate of mind is superb. The news mars volta album is incredible also. Francis the Mute almost as good as At the Drive-in.
Title: I am going CD shopping tomorrow Post by: sonicyouth on Thursday, March 10, 2005, 15:32:49 Didn't really like Deloused, and as far as I understand the new album is even more prog and that's not my thing (despite my nerdiness). I like the track Skinnyman features on with Braintax, so if I can find it I think I'll buy that. I've got Return of the Drifter and it's sort of passed me by, really...
what other Phi-Life albums are worth buying? Title: I am going CD shopping tomorrow Post by: janaage on Thursday, March 10, 2005, 15:33:29 I suppose they'd come under the rock genre, Sheepdog definately is rock, but then tunes like Mr Moon are much more mellow. They recently featured in a sony advert with "Motown Blood" which was a funky little number. I'm not just saying it but this album "Bring 'em in" is without doubt my favourite of the 21st century so far. Hurricane Bar, their follow up album is just as good but I thik Bring 'em in is a perfect introduction to the best Swedish band for years.
Title: I am going CD shopping tomorrow Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Thursday, March 10, 2005, 15:33:48 The chosen few Phi-Life Cypher with Taskforce.
Title: I am going CD shopping tomorrow Post by: janaage on Thursday, March 10, 2005, 15:34:41 Sheepdog, Mr Moon and To China with love are all excellent tracks to sample the Diao sound. Hope you like it.
Title: I am going CD shopping tomorrow Post by: walrus on Thursday, March 10, 2005, 15:38:47 3 Doors Down - Seventeen Days
You'll love it :) Title: I am going CD shopping tomorrow Post by: oxford_fan on Thursday, March 10, 2005, 15:49:26 Quote from: "Ben Wah Balls" The chosen few Phi-Life Cypher with Taskforce. great cd, but it's only an ep so about 6 tracks.life's solo effort is alright but nowt special, imo. mftc3 is essential for a taskforce fan if you don't have it already. i'd definitely recommend aim if you like funky hip-hop, a bit like j5 but without the lyrics (replaced by samples of lyrics): http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=music&field-keywords=aim/ref=xs_ap_l_xgl/026-3903958-6878820 Title: I am going CD shopping tomorrow Post by: Piemonte on Thursday, March 10, 2005, 15:51:19 I cant think of anything to recommend that you probablly dont own already SY
Title: I am going CD shopping tomorrow Post by: sonicyouth on Thursday, March 10, 2005, 15:55:34 I'm liking the samples of cold water music. Most of them anyway. Cheers OF.

I'll be investing shortly. Title: I am going CD shopping tomorrow Post by: sonicyouth on Saturday, March 12, 2005, 21:55:47 In all honesty, I downloaded a couple of tunes and they passed me by entirely. They weren't bad or anything, if I heard it on the radio I'd nod my head along to it but it's just not really anything that demanded my attention.
