Title: For the car buffs on here (Ralphus etc) Post by: Bob's Orange on Saturday, January 27, 2007, 09:01:28 Had a similar thread before I came over to Luxembourg and have a similar dilemna now. I have 15,000 ish Euro to buy a car and the 3 I have whittled it down to are
A) Audi 1.8T S3 B) VW Golf 2.8 VR6 C) Honda Civic Type R At the moment, these are in the position most likely to purchase. I want something that is powerful, confortable, has a few toys and reasonably practical (we have to change to winter tyres over here each year because of the weather). Fuel economy is not an issue as Petrol over here is the cheapest in Europe 1 Euro a litre and 88 cents a litre for Diesel I think. Going to have a look around at motors today as I have never driven these before. The Audi is 4wd and seems to be swinging it for me at the moment. Any thoughts or comments appreciated. Title: For the car buffs on here (Ralphus etc) Post by: Ralphy on Saturday, January 27, 2007, 11:46:59 Audi S3 for smooth, fast, stylish motoring.
Golf VR6 for big fuel bills. Honda Civic Type R for hooligan, edge of the seat thrills. Title: For the car buffs on here (Ralphus etc) Post by: janaage on Saturday, January 27, 2007, 13:49:52 My next car will be an Alfa 147, bit of a gamble as workmanship can be a little dodgy so I hear. Thoughts Ralph?

Thoughts Ralph? I drove a 2.0 Selespeed just after it came out. Nice to drive, but I'd be concerned by reliability and build quality (although to be fair, its leaps and bounds ahead of previous generations of Alfa's). I wouldn't buy one personally. I'm after the new Lexus IS... Title: For the car buffs on here (Ralphus etc) Post by: cavpete on Saturday, January 27, 2007, 14:23:35 cant go wrong with an audi build is superb and good solid engine.
golfs too much of a boy racer car but still nice. as previously said the vr6 is getting dated. Not a honda lover so cant really comment on them. as coxernator said lexus are nice love an is200 Title: For the car buffs on here (Ralphus etc) Post by: Bob's Orange on Saturday, January 27, 2007, 17:01:41 Ok, I went a bit mad today and ended up buying a 2003 Audi S3 3.2 V6. Was a beast of a car! Can't wait until I collect it in about a weeks time!! The guy wanted 17900 Euro but I haggled it down to 16500 Euro which is £11k, pretty sure that is a good price.

Thoughts Ralph? If it helps, my last was a 146 and I liked it a lot - when it got totalled by the stupid woman who didn't know where her brakes were on the way to Roves Farm, I replaced it with a 156. Set against that, I'd take anything I say on this with huge cones of salt as I know fuck all about cars and Alfas are esentially rebadged Fiats but with bigger bills. But both the ones I've had have driven nice, had plenty of oomph when I needed it, nice and comfy and with enough style to make me look like I've nicked it (although to be fair a Metro would pass on that score). And although every time I say "Alfa" people suck their teeth and whitter on about the dodgy build quality etc, both of mine have been fine. Usual wear and tear, none of the horror myths you hear. (Unless you count the stupid "what brakes?" woman who stoved in the back of the 146, but that's hardly Alfa's fault) One downside is the factory radios are shit, and I never got very good MW reception so when I got the new one, first thing I did was rip out the factory radio and put in a DAB. Few quid, but well worth it. Title: For the car buffs on here (Ralphus etc) Post by: Ralphy on Sunday, January 28, 2007, 16:05:14 There is no such car as a 3.2 V6 Audi S3....
The S3 has a 1.8 litre Turbo engine with 225 bhp (210 in the older ones) You have bought a 3.2 V6 Audi A3 S-Line  I'm currently looking at the new Audi S3. Has the same 2.0 Turbo engine as the Golf GTi but with 265 bhp.
