Title: Orange.
Post by: herthab on Saturday, December 30, 2006, 21:38:51
Was it just me, or did anyone else notice a significant drop in the amount of orange being worn today?

Anything to do with the fact that it wasn't given out free before the game?

I forgot mine too. Not good.

On a plus side, saw a few kids in the exec box wearing 'em.  8)

There's your answer. There was less today, although still a substantial body of orangeness but a lot of people didn't bring their hats with them - having had over 3000 available for the Wycombe game, we'd foolishly assumed that would be more than enough to cover both games, but didn't anticipate the sheer scale of the demand on Boxing Day, so only had a few hundred left today (which went within minutes). There was no way, with only three working days between the two games, we could have restocked and in any case, we've cleaned out at least one major supplier. Apparently in normal circumstances they reckon having 2000 bright orange beanies and 2500 orange baseball caps in stock is usually more than enough to see them through!

But then having given out over 4000 hats in the first two games, we are slightly relying on people to keep on bringing them back, and bring their own orange stuff as well, so the thing keeps growing.

One thing I did notice a lot of today was people wearing non-hat orange things, e.g. t-shirts, little ribbons etc which I think a lot of people who just think the hats look damn silly are choosing to do. Which is great, Rob's whole idea was that people would find their own ways of expressing it, but clearly isn't as visible when you look across the stands as the bright orange beanies. So I'd guess there's a lot more orange out there than it looks like (if you see what I mean). But even on a slightly less visual showing than the Wycombe game, there's still many times more people wearing orange whether hats, t-shirts, ribbons ties or what have you than we dared hope for at this stage.

So, keep on going, keep wearing orange and Yeovil, just tie your hat to your wrist on the morning of the game, that way you won't forget it!

kids had them on mostly who clearly know fuck all about why they are worn.toddlers, kids, and that dont make the right impression at all imo.
i asked a group of lads(about 15-16) at a garage sat on the wall after the game why they were wearing them and they said "dunno just got given them"
i fully support the orange campaign but think it aint working and is becoming a joke!
they are handed out to people that have no idea about what is going on!

There was a bloke cme into our shop yesterday wearing his STFC raincoat and an orange ribbon. Not exactly visible from the other side of a football pitch but I took note...it stands out and who knows, maybe somebody will ask why he's wearing it and the message will spre taht way...

Happy new year (i'm often premature!) i still maintain that non violent action is the way forward but silent protest... i'm runing out of time for...a top effort but our local pres are truly cockless, ball lesss and devoid of any love for the club, i think our protsts need to be made loud and proud next home game.. WE SHOULD NOT BE DRAWING AT HOME TO NOTTS FUCKING COUNTY IN DIV FUCKING FOUR

Sorry arriba certainly not my experience either of giving them out or of seeing people wearing them. There are quite a few kids wearing them, usually sent to get them by their parents who don't want to look daft (fair enough) but know full well what it's about and back it 100%. Certainly where I sit, there's a fair bit of orange and there's very few kids there at all (wearing orange or not). I've also been surprised how many 60+ supporters are prepared to "don the orange". Guess it depends on the make-up of fans around you in the ground, to some extent

I had my orange trust /power shirt on yesterday but what with the weather, it was'nt visible cos i was covered up. 2 mates who went with me also wore orange shirts, and they are joining up.
I was having a few bevvies in the swiss chalet last night, several people approached me and asked about joining the trust, so i pointed them to the website to join up.

This thing is growing arriba, sounds to me like you might be on your own in thinking otherwise. But then you are a grumpy bastard anyway! :P

I was pleasantly surprised to see the amount of orange in the CGH yesterdy when I popped in to pay Alan, I think the weather is a big factor, like Millon said people cover up with coats and the like.  In teh warmth of the pub there was good numbers.  I suspect as the campaign spreads into the spring and hopefully better weather more visible shows of colour will be on, as a t-shirt is easy but no one will go out and buy a bright orange overcoat just for the game.

How about trying to get hold of shed loads of orange balloons ?
All get released at kick off, then the weather being what it is at the moment they will all get blown over the newbury skyline.
At least then Mike can see whats going on.

We have discussed the idea of balloons before - problem is getting them in the ground inflated (because realistically you're not going to get several thousand people to blow them up themselves, even on a one-each basis)

Title: Orange.
Post by: Frasier3 on Thursday, January 11, 2007, 11:36:01
Even if you had several hundred people prepared to blow up their own balloon as well as those with hats it would add to the visual impact. I think this is worth a try!

Post by: genf_stfc on Thursday, January 11, 2007, 12:05:54
but unless you fill them up with helium they will probably all end up blowing across the pitch - and i think in terms of the 'protesting whilst not interrupting the players' policy that might cause a problem, and from a PR point of view might back fire

Post by: millom red on Thursday, January 11, 2007, 13:23:00
A bottle of helium from boc isnt expensive paul, nor are the balloons. Buy the balloons, blow em up in the trust office, and let them go just before kick off from whatever  side of the ground the wind is blowing so that those inside the ground can see them as they are released including the directors, perhaps even give some out to kids on sticks so they can take em into the ground with em!

The club won't let us take balloons in though, so this suggestion, as good as it is, can't be implemented.

that of course is a possibility but then agian it might not be.alot of people still dont really get what the orange campaign is about.i dont think the comments should just be dismissed personally.he's only asked a couple of questions not really stirred it up,others have done that

It'a pretty simple, it's to show support of what hopefully will end up as a takeover by the Trust.

not dismissing it mate. I have been handing out the hats before every home game (barring Notts County - fucking rain) and everyone i gave a hat got an explanation. Also people who asked me got an explanation.

I think it's pretty easy for people who want to find out what it's about to find out. And I don't think it's fair to say that most people don't know why it's happening.

Do your bit arriba. If someone doesn't know why they are wearing the hat - explain it to them.

I agree in that he should be given proper answers - maybe pointed at the Fans' Consortium stuff on the Trust site? - but still seems likely it's a troll IMHO.

Edit: just been to post a link to the stuff on the Trust site and looks like it's already been done
