Title: Hello all Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, December 19, 2006, 18:06:25 What's been happening then?
I must say it feels good to have a whole weekend away from the football and the politics. I also found it interesting to discover that DMR is a hoolie. Hang your head in shame young man! Title: Hello all Post by: Fred Elliot on Tuesday, December 19, 2006, 18:14:14 Where you been Si Pi ?
Title: Hello all Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, December 19, 2006, 18:17:07 I've been 'largeing it up' in Southampton. Had promised I would catch up with some friends before Christmas without really realising the only time we all had available was this weekend just gone :-))(

Think he may have been "out of the house"....which is a bit scary for an 11000+ poster. This may be considered a preface to the next stage of "getting a life" Title: Hello all Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, December 19, 2006, 18:20:41 Says the man who studies football statistics in his spare time

Title: Hello all Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, December 19, 2006, 18:38:03 All work and no play makes Reg a dull boy.
I have still managed to post a fair bit since the summer, but I reckon the studying and the working at the same time has definitely cut my posting amounts by a third. Its a well established fact that work is the curse of the drinking classes. Do you have a spreadsheet logging your daily posting rate? Title: Hello all Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, December 19, 2006, 18:51:08 Yes Reginald I do. I'll upload it if anyone wants?

Not in the Sound and Vision forum you wont......its been busted, apparently OB have been seeking the Mod of this site, but he's "been away" Title: Hello all Post by: Lumps on Tuesday, December 19, 2006, 20:21:31 Quote from: "simon pieman" Says the man who studies football statistics in his spare time  I'm not convinced he does you know Whisper it quietly but I think that Reg might sometimes have another window open to www.swindon-town-fc.co.uk when he posts on here, giving him access to a vast resource of STFC trivia. I'd never do such a thing  Title: Hello all Post by: Reg Smeeton on Tuesday, December 19, 2006, 20:38:14 Quote from: "Lumps" Quote from: "simon pieman" Says the man who studies football statistics in his spare time  I'm not convinced he does you know Whisper it quietly but I think that Reg might sometimes have another window open to www.swindon-town-fc.co.uk when he posts on here, giving him access to a vast resource of STFC trivia. But as stated I'm not in the least bit nerdy, so declined. I did point out to him, however, there were quite a few errors, and other bones of contention.....but that I couldn't be arsed to list them. It is nevertheless a first class effort deserving of nothing but praise. He's got player profiles, including lists of clubs played, for no mark 2nd year scholars from the mid 90's that never actually signed for the Town. The man must be obsessed. It's a nice site for when you've got some name on the tip of your tongue, or a vague memory of a game from 15 years ago niggling away at you Title: Hello all Post by: Reg Smeeton on Tuesday, December 19, 2006, 21:26:36 Think you need to be a bit obsessive to undertake such a task, and having first class IT skills obviously helps.
In the past I've discussed with other like minded fans the need for an authoritative all in one book, which combines elements of the written history stuff of the legendary Dick Mattick, and the statistical excellence of Paul Plowman. Swindon-Town-fc goes some way to meeting this in web form, but you can't beat a good book. There was a time in the late 80's/early 90's when a publishing company (Breedon) co-operated with fans to make several comprehensive stat books (I know Exeter City were one of the clubs). Title: Hello all Post by: Reg Smeeton on Tuesday, December 19, 2006, 21:53:43 What interests me beyond the basic player profile...stat approach, is what might be termed the narrative of social history....Mattick has addressed this to an extent....but from his time as a director, as he had access to old board records etc .
However, you have to be driven by obssession rather than whim....and I'm too much the dilettante for such an undertaking. |
