Title: Steve "Chalkie" White
Post by: fatbury on Wednesday, October 25, 2006, 08:09:26
As the current board seem pretty keen on a cheap option replacement I suggest that they appoint Chalkie White - He isnt going to demand massive wages - BUT - he will ensure the same hard work and fitness ethic that Dennis Wise started will continue. Anyone who can turn Chippenham Town from relegation fodder to Championship material in 1 season is obviously a class act - added to this the following - non league football is harder to manage in than league football - he has contacts and knows which non league players are worth a go at this level - Freddy Eastwood, DJ Campbell, Fola Onibuje type players - also I know that Swindon Town manager would be the pinnacle for him - no one could want it more - he gave 100 percent as a player and is respected by all the fans and im sure the same would be true as a manager. With Paul Bodin as a worthy assistant I think he might be able to emulate Lou Macari and Glenn Hoddle and take us back up the League. He also knows about the current situation as he always keeps a close eye on STFC so is not blind to what he is taking on. Unproven yes but as cheap options go .. and mark my words the board will only take a cheap option - that Steve CHALKIE White is the man!

I love the openly honest contradictions in your quest for a manager.

To be honest I think White and Bodin fell out when they were at Bath City. It was quite amusing when White quit Chippenham thinking he was going to get a new job (Bath again?) and he didn't get it. Oh dear.

By contradictions I think you mean not wanting a cheap option then saying Chalkie .. To be honest its because im not entirely sure who I do want .. but im certain a cheap option will be chose .. in which case id prefer someone I can really get behind like Chalkie

Didnt know about the fall out tho .. knew they had worked together before when Bodin managed Bath .. but maybe that was because Chalkie was a better manager? (Bodin had a poor spell there but as assistant would probably do well)

For the record I wouldn't be gutted if a past player like White or Shaun Taylor came back... The fear of tarnishing their playing career is always there though.

Look what happened to poor Jimmy Quinn who could do nothing about his managerial tenure at STFC.

to appoint chalkie white would be nothing short of a catastrophe. Can we not look a little further than the likes of white, bodin and taylor please?!

Give Williams a coupla games while scouting around for someone decent.

Can't help but think the thisisstfc article quotes interpret that the job is Williams' to lose.

Juddie how can you even suggest that Williams can be better than Chalkie???

Im sorry but Williams is the cheapest of cheap options and im sure the majority of fans simply wont buy it - any more than one or at the most two games until a new manager is brought in is the most he should be in charge for... I hope that given your close connections with the club and current board that this isn't their thinking too - if so then I think we have even more serious concerns ahead of us

well at chippenham he fell out with people and got banned from the touchline several times. Also managers experience is only chippenham, not exactly what people on here have been saying.

I don't see much difference between Chalkie and Williams to be honest. Fatters, you have lost the plot :)

I believe in Chalkie ... he seriously wants the job ..

not at all - if you are referring to Pook .. I was trying to make good of a bad player - optimism if you like ..

With regard to Steve White .. he would be good .. as the board will ONLY CHOOSE A CHEAP OPTION? he is the best of the cheaper bunch IMO - why is it that whatever some people suggest gets shot down in flames .. I dont think Steve is a stupid option -  im serious this time! Give him the job

Title: Steve "Chalkie" White

no, i'd rather not give him the job thanks. not that its my choice. but thank fuck its not yours either.

White would be a great manager.

Williams would be a shit manager.

Based on.....errrrrr.......no evidence whatsoever.

You are having a pop at Williams before a ball has been kicked. That is Grade A cuntish behaviour Fatbury!

Post by: fatbury on Wednesday, October 25, 2006, 10:01:51
He isnt up to the job (from what ive seen of him playing, coaching and in general demeanour) IMO.. exactly what I said when Iffy Onoura was selected (and I think results proved me right!).. tbh we need an experienced top qualtiy manager ala Wise but the board will only choose cheap - hence thats why im backing White.

Re Williams as a player - I think he is a fine captain and an excellent solid defender- but manager .. sorry but no!

And my reasons for picking Steve White (ie evidence) is at the top of the post!

WISE WASNT FUCKING EXPERIENCED!!!

when have you seen williams coaching?

you sir, are a ruddy winner.

Post by: fatbury on Wednesday, October 25, 2006, 10:22:03
Wise WAS experienced - in his playing days at Chelsea he saw an awful lot and in his management at Millwall - FA Cup Final? Did u forget he took them there?

Re Williams coaching - I was lucky enough to have been invited for a day at Wanborough recently during which time Adie took a couple of sessions - also I was close at hand when he did a prematch session with the players ahead of the Supermarine game and thats what ive based it on ..Im not saying im right remember .. just voicing an opinion.

Chalkie is not the man. as much we would all like to see some legends of STFC in charge it should be someone with league management experience. the only people i can think of are Calderwood (and thats never going to happen) and Ling (and even that would be a long shot) its going to have to be a free agent which limits are options even more

fatbury, did you forget they didnt face a premiership team til the final? did you also forget he lost more than he won at milwall?

buhhhh? You just contradicted yourself in the space of about five seconds you dickhead.

White would be utterly woeful, he hardly did a brilliant job at Chippenham and would be out of his depth at this club.

Stop suggesting him or I'll ban you again

Steve White is a joke manager I have known players who have played under him and hes nothing more than a tactically inferior bully who victimises other players to get a laugh...he would be an awful choice.

The Star, usually the best national next to the Indi, has Paul Bodin as the hot tip to take over.

Most of the lower league ‘shorts’ are usually a crock of horse shit in the scandal rags but the Star is usually up to date or one step ahead on Town news.  Perhaps there’s a Town fan on board?  Not say there’s anything in the Bodin pieceas they still manage to get half of it wrong, which considering is not a bad ratio for the red tops.

Did Wise have any managerial experience before taking Millwall to the FA Cup Final?  No - thus proving it is possible for someone new to something to actually do a decent job.

hes up for it

FORMER fans’ favourite Steve White admits he would relish the challenge of restoring Town to its former glories after declaring his interest in the vacant County Ground hot-seat, writes ANDY CRYER.

The ex-Town striker became the first to confirm he would be applying to become Dennis Wise’s successor, hoping his strong connections with the club would stand him in good stead.

With over 300 appearances and 111 goals for Swindon under his belt, between 1986-1995, White, pictured, was last year voted the club’s all-time cult hero by the fans in a BBC poll.

He also has an impressive record in non-league management, after two succesful years at Chippenham Town, and admits is desperate to be given his chance in the football league at the County Ground.

He said: “I will make no secret of the fact that I would love the opportunity to become manager of a football club where I enjoyed such good fortune as a player.

“It is clear for everyone to see that Dennis Wise has built a team capable of challenging for honours come next May.

“But the appointment of his successor is now crucial for the team to realise its potential.”

why would I have Williams Fatbury?

Three reasons:

1. The most important thing is that we don't rush into a new appointment. Let's look who is around, take our time and pick a man that will a) stay long-term and b) bring success bby way of a decent track record. Oyr players looked up to wisey - we need a similar person with the same presence, if spossible. Chalkie White?! I think not.

2. There has to be some element of continuity. Wise goes four days before biggest game of season - we need to keep preaching wise's gospel - it has worked so far.

3. Adi is the closest thing we have to wise at the moment. They share the same football philosophy, adi knows how wise works and he commands the utmost respect from the rest of the squad.

I'm not saying give it to williams full time, far from it in fact - but let's just not rush this decision. Even if you brought in sturrock there's no guarantee if beating lincoln and walsall - so let's try it?

Chalkie White is a ledge but what has he done to suggest he'll be a good manager for us? Nadder. Sometimes I think fans live in the past - talking about chalkie, lou macari - it's nonsense. We need a proven manager that knows this division abnd can get us out. Sturrock, Dave Penney - heck Hoddle might even think about it?

Chalkie White is not the answer.

Very Good Shout. Dave Penny is a good manager. Almost beat Arsenal in the Carling Cup last December.
