Title: Who will be our next manager?
Post by: STFC_Chris on Monday, October 23, 2006, 09:01:09
Unlikely to be an outside appointment  given the money situation, unless King or Iffy are brought back although even that wouldn't suprise me now.

If they go, which I dont think they will, then Tuttle will probably go as well......
Can see us getting an unknown in to take over at a low cost, maybe even finally get Shaun Taylor down if we are lucky?

If not him I dont think the board would be as stupid as previously to get King or Iffy back as as much as they seem to be able to ruin this club week in week out they dont do it intentionally, they are just thick!

I vote they wont go, Wise will take the extra contract, I think wise is more loyal than we give him credit for in all these hasty rumours......
Remember that Wise said previously he wouldnt want to work with Bates cause of family ties.....the godfather stuff....

I hope this is all just hear say or that Leeds want them, have requested to discuss things with them but that Wise and Poyet have no intention of leaving til this season is done.....

I'll still sit here, optimistic as ever..........but noticably nervous and concerned until Wise either shows himself as a money grabbing shiester or a loyal, get the job done professional......everyone knows he could make us finish 8th and not go up this year and they'd still get snapped up by Championship or Premier League side next season, so why rush off now......only reason would be if they desperately see Leeds as their ideal team to manage.....which I dont think they do personally.

That would be baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad anyway, Macc can keep him as far as I'm concerned.

I'm so pissed off, I really don't care who comes (back) in....anything is going to be an immense drop in standards and demonstrate the lack of vision and ambition running through the entire board structure.

100% sure it'll be Tuttle with someone like Williams as his assistant. Although I'm not sure whether I want that.

Iffy onoura will be on the boards mind, but seton wills wasn't a fan of iffy was he in the first place?

sturrock wouldn't come here and i doubt the board would push the boat out to bring in someone of his ilk.

face it, it's going to be an internal appointment..which at least means it won't be that utter cunt mcghee

David Tuttle .. who isnt an option is a certainty to take over as he was bloody diabolical at Millwall so is a must for Mike D and the crew

Id like to see Chalkie White if we have to have a new boss

Tuttle was abysmal in the Championship with Millwall - But I can't see it being anyone else to be honest.

If Tuttle followed Wise - Which could happen... I honestly couldn't guess who'd take over.

If we do appoint a former player like the usual mentioned names - Steve White, Paul Bodin, Shaun Taylor et al then Wise has given them a very good head start.

Yeah he's doing a great job at Rovers

There are a couple of Rovers fans at work and they really don't rate him, no balls. Reckon their strikers are underperforming and he is too scared to drop them.

It mightn't be the best outcome but I genuinely believe that Williams could be  a decent manager, and for me has been a phenomenal signing in terms of defensive organisation this season.  It wouldn't be ideal, but we could do a lot worse.

I’d have thought Tuttle will be the preferred choice with Lee and/or Williams stepping up into the assistant and coaching roles.

As with Iffy & Woan I wouldn’t expect to see replacements for either’s position, which will save a few quid.

IF Wise and Poyet did go (I still don't think they will   ) I think Tuttle would be a good aqusition as he'd know what training regime to use, in terms of gettin the players fit and ready, because he would have learnt off the likes of Poyet and Wise.
Williams would also make a good appointment, like others have said.

Tuttle would be a disaster......I carried on going when Ken Beamish was appointed in similar circumstances, (ie cheap internal no hoper) and gates were soon down to sub 2000.....even then I had an optimism that we'd rise like a phoenix and so it proved.

If its Tuttle, then I'm not sure I could find the enthusiasm any longer. :(

As Reg has mentioned in another post, it's a pivitol moment.

The Board seem to have 2 options in front of them:

a) continue with their agressive stance about an overspend and determine that the club should only spend the min it can when appointing a replacement - so from within or cheap option externally.

This ensures they remain publicly at one with their own statements over the past 2 months.  It probably creates a greater risk on league position and fans reaction.

b) appoint a decent Manager but fly in the face of their concerns over the overspend - and by doing so make a very public U turn that suggests Devlin was right to commit the club to being professional as Wise wanted.

This ensures the fans stay onside and less risk to our league position.  It does though bring a serious question to the fore over their position at the club - to hire an expensive option suggests Devlin was merely doing what they would, and it would make all their mud slinging look very dodgy - not to mention opening them up completely to legal action from Devlin.

I wouldnt offer odds on a horse with only three legs, but needless to say if its the only one racing it'll still win! (my point being our board are less than perfect but i'd still never back them with a wager no matter how sure I was!)

If they really wanted him they'd have had him at the first attempt, but we're not even considering that Wise and Poyet may not want to go there themselves, so even if the board accepted an offer for them to talk again with Wise and Poyet they may still say no themselves personally.....which for what its worth I think Wise would say no and stay put as its better for his career!

He'll be around long enough in the management game to be there the next time Leeds need a new manager, if he does want that particular job that bad!!

I think you have indeed  been on the Mary Jane if you really believe that. If Wise didn't want it he would have said no and that would have been that. It wouldn't have got as far as PR from both sides stating ongioing discussions, etc, etc.

....in which case why has the situation got anywhere near where we are at now?

All Wise would have to say is that he does not want to go and this would have been nipped in the bud. It wasn't, so you have to assume that it is a move that he wants.

Nail on head. If Wise wasn't interested why would the clubs bother discussing compensation?

Title: Who will be our next manager?
Post by: DribblingSissy on Monday, October 23, 2006, 14:54:55
Assumption made an ass out of u and mption!

The way I understand it works is that the club (leeds) have to ask the other club (swindon) permission to talk to the management (Dennis and Gus) and then it is there chance to offer them a contract and if they want they can still decline it......

Our board cant be seen to simply be saying NO becuase in the contract it says we have to say yes as long as we get sufficient compensation....so as soon as they say they want to talk to dennis and gus we are automatically going to be in the spotlight for saying yes subject to compensation agreement......doesnt mean that wise and poyet WANT to manage Leeds does it!

And Dennis doesnt have to come out to us, the leeds fans or anyone and say I dont want the job.....he's a head down and focus manager so I'm sure if and when the time comes that he is offered a contract (if he is allowed to discuss it with Leeds) then he will give a yes or no answer then and only then!

He has said repeatedly that he wants to get on with the football, so thats when i will judge him......WHEN HE makes a decision or statement about his future.....at present though, if I was Dennis I wouldnt want to add fuel to the fire either, I'd want to keep my options open!

Title: Who will be our next manager?

......full circle back to my main point - if he wants the move, he has come here and said one thing and then done another.

It's not the fact the he's going that I mind, nor even the fact that he might be pi$$ed off with the board - it's the fact that he stated that he wants to work his way up from the bottom and then goes to a team two divisions higher. I genuinely would not mind if he went to another League Two team, as that would still mean that his arrival comments were true and not a load of bull.

HE HAS NOT FUCKING GONE YET!!!!!
for fuck sake, it'll piss us all off if he goes but for fuck sake until he is declared as leaving he is still OUR manager!
No wonder our club is so fucked up with fans that jump on every band wagon and assume everything is as bad as it can ever get because we have had a lot of bad luck in the past!

Get over it, he may leave he may not......but until we know either way from HIM then shut it!

Sorry bad day but I had to let it out!

Point taken, I'm jumping the gun a little - suppose we are talking about after the event already but nothing has happened as yet.

If there is a stalemate and they both resign, what position does that put us in then - does that mean we'd get no compensation at all?

..having said that, the only point that I was making is what would happen IF this Leeds deal went through and IF it does, then the comments that I have made would not change.

I think you'll find they are under contract and they would have to buy out of their contract which would cost them three times more than we'd have to ask Leeds for!

So its simply not going to happen that they resign

I'm with you Sissy.

I doubt Wise and Poyet are even anywhere near Leeds today.

I'd like to see Chalkie White if we have to have a new boss

It is indeed pivotal .. I for one will be calling for the boards head at all occasions if a top class manager isnt brought in . I sat back before when the cheap options were taken and im not doing it again .

Since when has Chalkie been a top class manager?

If we can't afford 'know how' then how on earth are we going to afford 'top class'? The two aren't mutually exclusive, they go hand in hand.

You're just making excuses because you know you're not going to bother coming back next season.

this stuff about we cant afford certain names

could be a little of because we did offer wise more on his curent deal which isnt half bad so in theory we could offer this to another head

I guess the the "improved deal" we offered probably amounted to an extra £20 a month with some of the clauses removed so we could get more compensation if someone really wanted Wise and Poyet.

Isn't Shaun Taylor at Forrest Green?

hmmmm.......doesnt bode well for his qualities then!!
shame as for such a town legend he would be a good figurehead for the public to get behind the team again i think

Probably be okay as a coach, guess he did okay at City, but no chance as manager.

Lets not forget the one big problem - Devlin, the only guy who knows anything about football (by everyones admission on the Board) is currently on long term sick leave with every likelihood of not returning as they have no confidence in him.

Who the fuck is going to be in charge of the recruitment process?

Guys it will  be the cheap option.

The £700k saved in wages and compo will go on the overspend- the overspend that goes directly into Dunwoody sports
