9 days without a drink has fucked you up.

Carry on drinking.

My brother was told he couldn't drink anymore, that was 3 years ago, he still drinks like a fish.

I was shocked to read about that but not surprised if that makes sense.

I have said to Mrs Taylor on several occasions in the past when we have been watching his antics, "That silly twat is going to get eaten by a croc or a shark or something"

I had never thought of getting stung by a stingray

Still sad though.

I assume we will be having a minute's silence before the Franchise game :?

Why???

It's not like he's really famous or a sad loss to the world.

Perhaps i'm being a tad harsh, but surely that's a ridiculous idea.

I am gutted!!

When I used to watch his show a little bit of me always thought I'd love to have his life, doing stuff you really loved, having a laugh, happily raising a family - the bloke was ace!!  Bloody stingray, I'm with Yeovil I didn't realise they were killers!

Howard Taylor (GWR knob jockey*) needs an effing slap, don't think I didn't hear you having a laugh about it this morning you tosser*, you're a marked man from now on Taylor!

(*I have toned down my language in keeping with the tone of the thread)

Sad day, he was a hero of mine and his shows were great entertainment.

He was apparentley filming sharks when the stingray attacked and punctured his heart.

It's only the 2nd time in recorded history a stingray has killed someone.

:( I liked him.

Howard Taylor would do well to remember that he had a family and show some respect. 107.7 Brunel FM is the way forward.  :fu: GWR, I haven't forgiven you for taking off the Dave Barratt phone in and replacing it with late night love.

That man was awesome! He had no fear and I know this isnt a consolation but at least he died doing something he loved.  His animal santuary in OZ will hopefully continue and I feel for his child and family.

He made wildlife interesting and that took a lot.

RIP

GWR is shit I know, so I deserve to be pissed off for listening to it this morning, but Radio 1 does my head in Brunel FM had a five minute interview with a school girl aged 8 and a half, so I thought GWR for 5 mins.  Should have known better.

Next time I see him about I'm gonna have a go at the rude individual.  The way he spoke about a 44 year old father of two dying was disgusting.

He was a character but strangely enough when I was in Oz most of them couldn't stand poor old Steve or that Croc Dundee fella.

I’m sure I’ve been stroking stingrays in aquariums a few times, seems a bit of an odd way to go unless he was riding it around the reef.

Look on the bright side it could have been Terry Nutkins, an otter had 2 of his fingers off. There's a lot of otters out there, if they all decide to have a go he's got no chance. At least he'll have died doing what he loves.............being attacked by a load of otters.

What puzzles me is the way this is all over the News, all day.  He's not even from our Country, surely while this is sad for his family etc, it's hardly the most important news of the day?

The recent desire of the Nation to suffer "celebrity grief" as I'll term it, does get on my tits a bit.  I can hold my head up knowing that when 50m people were sat stunned in tears watching the news break about Diana dying, I was busy enjoying my first date with my now wife.  Now that one went really OTT.

Funny you should say that...was only saying on saturday that it is about time somebody famous should die. Me and my mate came to the conclusion it would be John Prescott or Pete Doherty, although Peter Crouch did come into the equation aswell.

His son is three, his daughter eight, I think they'll both know what's going on.

I know where Rob T's coming from but I happened to think that Steve Irwin was a cracking entertainer, and educator (if that's a word), an edu-tainer if you like.

His show was ace, he came across as a kinda fella you'd like to go up the pub and have a pint with.  And like I say I find it sad that a globally well like man died before his due date, 44 is no age to go.

I'd have to agree with this.  For example, his death overshadowed this story on every news channel.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/5311464.stm

Four afghan civilians and a British soldier killed in suicide bomb attack in Kabul.

In a separate story, a British civilian has been shot dead in Jordan.  Its a sad state of affairs when these stories get buried by Steve Irwin's death, which, while obvious sad, and devastasting for his family, is not, in my opinion, world news, or British news.

Title: Steve Irwin dead
Post by: janaage on Monday, September 4, 2006, 14:25:39
Because the majority of the world aren't aware of who the British civilian is, ok so we heard the guy died, but little to no people are going to say "that bloke who died in Afganistan - fuck me he used to make me laugh, I really enjoyed watching his show, came across as a nice bloke"  Why?  Because we didn't ever see him, or meet him, or hear about him.

Would you really watch the news if all they did was report about "A 84 year old grandmother from Hull died last night in her sleep, after a long battle against cancer, she was a very funny lady, according to relatives..."

Soldiers die every day in the world, sad fact but true.  You become immune, I dare say if a tv personality died every day after a while people wouldn't give a shit, but they don't so when a well known person dies, it makes the headlines.

Well that's my take on it anyway.

Title: Steve Irwin dead
Post by: Doore on Monday, September 4, 2006, 14:29:11
I understand your argument Janaage, and indeed agree with it.  What I'm saying is I find it sad that people become immune to the news of soldiers dying everyday, then feel devestated by the death of someone who may well be famous, but is still someone they didn't know.

Title: Steve Irwin dead
Post by: janaage on Monday, September 4, 2006, 14:39:30
Yeah, that's fair enough, I don't think people are going over the top, from what I saw on TV this morning, I think most people are just disappointed that the Steve Irwin story has prematurely finished.

News has a history of moving on, in terms of soldiers, wars.  Look at Zimbabwe you hardly hear anything about that anymore but there's still trouble going on, people get fed up of hearing the same news day after day.

Sting rays venom isn't powerful enough to kill a man, that is why they kill so few people, in ithis instance a stab in the chest would mean the venom going straight to the heart, causing a heart attack.  not very nice.

I am actually quite surprised so many people know about him. I've only ever seen him on the Discovery Channel which, I had assumed, gets about 10 viewers a day. I was obviously wrong. Or maybe he's been on BBC or ITV at some point. I've not seen him on there if he has.

I couldn't believe it, i woke up this morning and found out. His wife and daughter must be devestated.

RIP Steve Irwin

What about his Son?

I didn't know he had a son. And btw, how sad that you lot make a  joke out of it the ones that quoted me in their posts. Wankers.

Serious question- as they were filming, is anyone else morbidly interested in seeing the clip when it inevitably winds up on the net?

On a trip north of Cairns we saw exactly where he died and also got to see his wife and best mate Wes doing his crocodile show at his Zoo in Brisbane.

Bindi does the kids shows there and Ben, she is nowhere near legal!  :o

the only nature program i've seen since steve irwin's death is "planet earth" which, admittedly, was very good, but it could have been so much better if it each episode had a boisterous australian sticking his thumb up a lion's arse.

rip steve.
