Title: Club Badge
Post by: Parkin09 on Tuesday, August 15, 2006, 12:04:18
sorry if this is a little deep for a first post but this has been really bugging me

over the past few years quite a lot of clubs have reverted to using more "traditional" badges on there club shirt (Barnsley, Sunderland,Spurs..sort of, Chelsea etc)

anyway in my humble opinion our current badge is utter cack its early 90's bollocks and is in no-way related to any part of the town in anyway and looks shit

does anyone else feel the same way? probably not but i felt i needed to get my point across cant we have something a bit more in touch with what swindon is....... a railway town and have the town crest as our badge or at leats something a little better than a shit diamond

opinions?
Anthony

Are you old enough to know of our previous badge?

Most folk want to revert to the traditional club badge as used up to about 1990(?)

Weird to think that this is now 16 years ago  :o

How's it going chief, welcome to the forum and all...

I think there’s quite a few that would agree with you perhaps with the exception of those that have inked it indefinitely upon themselves.

Mark Devlin spoke about the club badge at a fans forum quite a while back and said that there would be no plans to change the current design until or if we move to a new stadium.  The theory being that a new stadium will bring a new start, with a new image etc etc and that would be the right time to introduce a new club crest or badge.

I agree especially about the badgers!!

No I agree with this, the current emblem is a blot on the CG landscape.   I should imagine a re-brand of the STFC costs money, as it would with any other company so it's probably not on the agenda just yet.

Agree with the sentiments as well but as Jan says, re bradning costs a small fortune.  Just imagine all the places a logo is currently placed.

The club is clearly waiting until we move out of town before we rebrand the team name and logo, ala Franchise.

Jesus, they've only been around a week and they want to rebrand themselves? What are they, corporate franchise monkeys?

whilst i don't particularly dislike the current logo, i'd much rather see the old railway logo or just the simple ST logo.

i think devlin's right about leaving it until we either get a new stadium or redevelop the county ground, new beginnings and all that.

mate swindon is definately a railway town even if its not now it was at one point  i dont think many towns still have train yards as there not needed in this day, the foundations of this town were built on steam railway engines and without them we would be a sorry shithole like Milton Keynes with no real heritage and just an overflow from big citites which we are nit because we have our own identity

I'm sure we've had this thread before, but it was a 1st post so I'll let you off

Any new badge should incorporate the image of modern Swindon, no recfect the past.

Therefore the new badge should incorporate Shops, Offices, Single mums and town centre brawls. possibly even cannabis "factories"

Its an interesting point,  the identity thing being particularly relevant...unfortunately SBC has adopted a policy of trying to stamp out all aspects of Swindon's heritage and turn us into a Milton Keynes clone...unfortunately they can't even get this completely right as MK has manged to get itself an exciting football stadium.

STFC is a last bastion of cultural heritage....we've very nearly gone to the wall in the last couple of years.....as Piemonte says, to reflect the current themes, its no good harking back to the railway age....the current badge does in fact represent in some way one of the better phases of our history, so should stay for now.

Our badge isnt just a random diamond.
Its a robin
Turn it 90 degrees.
The circle is the head, the lines are the legs.
The S obviously represents Swindon
A robin due to out nickname being the The Robins.

The solution? Get a local firm to come in a pay for the rebranding under the guise of/as part of a larger sponsorship deal and I'm sure it's do-able. Imagine the positive PR it would generate for such a firm, especially given the clubs current high-profile management.

I'm all for it. Bring back the crest. I loved that train!

The current badge was designed to represent a fresh start at the club.
After the bad press due to the financial irregularities thing, STFC decided to 're-brand' the club, and signal a new dawn.
We wont go back to the previous one for these reasons.
The current one is very good, and has stood the test of time (albeit only 14 or so years).
Anyway, hello everyone. Nice to meet you all, and im sure some will be 'absolutely delighted' to see me posting on here!!  :soapy tit wank:  :soapy tit wank:

Oh dear!!!!!! :-))(
We were 'demoted' back in 1990 for financial irregularities.
When Hoddle came in, we changed the logo to signal a 'fresh start', and gained Premiership status 2 seasons later.
Regardless of the piss poor teams we have had representing us over the past few years, we have never needed a clean slate as much as we did after the heartbreak of demotion!

The ST was introduced, I think at the start of 72/73....Dave Mackay era...we went to black shorts and a classic 70's collared shirt....the logo was introduced in the middle of the shirt just under the v of the collar.

Before that shirts had alway been plain, apart from a couple of seasons around the early 60's when a form of club crest was on a large white patch.
