Shitty 4-0 90/91 season
Sheff Utd 1-3 93/94 - 1st ever game in the Premiership
Gillingam 2-0 86/87 (Selhurst Park)

That one on football emotion terms alone.

It goes without saying both Wembley trips were memorable, I was thinking more of your standard games rather than one off's, though I suppose technically the Tranmere and Gills games I list were one offs  :oops:

only been going to away games for a few years, but...

northampton 02/03 0-1 - it was my first away game. the first thing i said on arrival was "what county are we in?"

bournemouth 03/04 2-2 - went on my own, didn't know anyone but stood at the back with a big group of people singing, it was my first real experience in terms of atmosphere at away games.

wycombe 03/04 3-0 - packed away end, good atmosphere and it was the second 3-0 away win in a row, i was convinced we were going up

doncaster 05/06 0-1 - iffy's first game in charge and every town fan there sang their hearts out for 90 minutes.

i can't think of a fifth, suppose gills last season was good except for the game itself!

If we had won, gillingham away this year would have been a complete day.  Everyone was so up for it.

too many away games to pick out one.

if we'd won, it would have been the best away day i'd ever experienced...but it all went terribly terribly wrong

and i was sober which ruined it a bit but that's my fault!

Blackburn 1 - 2 Swindon 1990 POs. Absolutely fantastic atmosphere from us. Came away deafened from that game.

I was a mess! but in the pub beforehand was ace! never heard singing that loud

 It wasn't quite as good as 7-1....being 7-0...

QPR in Premier League.  3-1 win, our only away win in premier league, in our last away game, clinching our only double over any team that year.  And it was my birthday, when I was young enough to care about birthdays.  Safe to say I enjoyed that one.

the birmingham 6-4 is high up there with the tranmere game..

I climbed over into the Tranmere end and went on the pitch. One of their fans wanted to swap his scarf for my nice blue burmah sweatshirt (remember them) - I had no t-shirt underneath so politely declined.

That was the friendliest pitch invasion ever.

my dad's still got one of those burmah sweatshirts, often wears it to football.

The first league game at The Britannia for me.

A 2-1 win after being a goal down and seeing some Stoke Hoolie headbutt a Copper outside was Hoolietastic.

Last season away to Bristol city was really good even in the circumstances because it really opened my eyes up to see what a fucking fantastic set of fans we have and the fact we had just been relegated by our west county rivals never stopped us singing Swindon til I die after the Whistle was blown. Got goose pimples thinking about it now!

ive got fond memories of city away 2000 and reeeeeves scoring for town.

stoke away 1990,town secured play off place that day.packed away end and in great voice.as were the home fans who were relegated the same day.

It was a truly odd yet great experience the aftermath of that game.  I had a bit of a growing dislike of Tranmere at the time which as soon as the final whistle went, and they all came over, vanished.  Proper neck tingling stuff that was.

Yep, fucking great day. Probably better than Blackburn actually.

If you are talking days out all my best ones have been in the last 6 years, since I started drinking at football.

Gills 06 and Scum 02 for the buzz (both games were shit). QPR 04 and Stoke 01 for the unbelievable Swindon support. Wycombe countless times (strip pubs/running on the pitch). Bournemouth coach disaster 04/taking the piss in their pubs. Chesterfield minibus last season, the best midweek. Luton 2 seasons ago for taking Lutons main pub ( :wink: ). Reading everytime, seeing lads jumping on top of phone boxes outside the station. Bristol City (04-05, when we won 2-1), having a 500 fan scort back to the station. Brentford in the covered terrace.

I agree with you there too; that was an excellent day.

Stoke scored first from memory and we equalized about 60 seconds later through a Shearer header.

They put the photo of the team back out on the pitch afterwards celebrating in the Blackburn play off programme and I can just make myself out behind the goal  8)

Port Vale 03/04 coming back from 3 down was a good night out.

Leeds in the League cup (Wednesday, September 24, 2003) when we went 2-0 up against a premiership side...with two awesome goals.
Then we messed it up, but having sending off (and then seeing a goalkeeper score a goal) and lasting the whole of extra time with 10 men...
And then seeing a penalty shoot out!

Great great night out, great stadium, brilliant game of football, brilliant performance by us...just the wrong result.


Also QPR before that (Saturday, March 14, 1998) when Digby got sent off....but we won with McDonald in goal for 70 mins, and Onoura scoring the winner on his debut! Brilliant game

Blackpool away 95/96.. That was the first season I went to away games and I can remember Blackpool perfectly. We drew 1-1 and clinched promotion and it was just an absolutely brilliant day out.. Away end was packed.

Mansfield Away - 1-1 - under Macari which gave us the 4th Divvy Championship...

Thousands of Town fans - so many you couldn't stand in the Away end looking at the pitch - you were stood sideways with your head to the side - would never happen these days....

Anyone pushed at the back - the whole crowd moved forward under the strain....

After the game the players came back on the pitch and started throwing their shirts in the away end....

City away last year - the only time I have shed tears watching STFC and I was so proud of my club and its fans

Torquay away the last time (2-2) - Bit of a poor quality game but it was open and flowing football and we filled half the ground  8)

QPR away (0-1) - For the amazing away support, shame about the game

Charlton away in 94.3-1 down from the home leg,we won 4-1 aet with a Fjortoft hat trick and a Bumchump one-two-three via post and keeper's head.There was only about 50 of us there,unbelievable!More recently I enjoyed Mooney's last kick winner at Colchester and the 3-0 at Wycombe in our play-off season.Iffys first game at Donny was memorable but not for the football unfortunately!

Does Wembley count?! Both 1990 and 1993 take some beating.

I couple of odd ones that really stand-out for me...

Southend in 1996/97 - 3-1.
Great performance that day. Flowing football, a lively away support covered in anti-climbing paint. A steward with a "...big spider on his head..." and all that caravan banter... quality!

Luton in 2001/02 (I think...) - 3-1 (or was it 3-2... can't remember.)
Martin Williams double...yep you read that right. And what a double they were! A flying header and a bicycle kick. Again, lively away support shoving the home fans taunts down their throats on a balmy early season fixture. Brilliant!

Blackpool . God knows when , but sometime in the 80's . Lost 5-2 but we took a "special" train , for a midweek game, and then conga'd on the beach afterwards.

Wycombe away in Parkins first season, it pissed it down all night and he got our 3rd in a 3-2 win in the 95th minute. Ace. Similarly, the 3-0 in the PO season was incredible, great mob on the pitch when SSP scored.

I loved it at Brighton in the playoffs.

How could I forget the game at Wycombe?! That was a great day with the away end packed by 2 o'clock.

Can you see a Wycombe fan? NO! NO! :D

A couple of random ones stand out in my head. that qpr game where alan macdonald went in goal, iffy's debut I think. Charlton away the season we got relegated (99/00) was pretty immense, just becauase we were shit and they were ace yet we managed to win 1-0. The charlton fans were pretty nice about it if I remember properly.

I didn't start going to away games till I got older, Supporting swindon has always been something I've had to do myself. Neither of my parents like football so I was never bought up going to games. first season I got a season ticket must have been 96/97. I went to a fair few games 95/96 though.

Stoke away when they'd just got their new ground and QPR away in the premiership are the best I can remember. Qpr away is generally good actually.

Manchester united in the coca cola cup, was it 96/97????. Are 7000 fans out sung 50000 united fans and will always remember celebrating peter thornes goal.

Forgot about that one! I had corporate hospitality so was sat in the 3rd tier in a suit with loads of Manc business men - guess who was the only fucker stood on his seat going mental when we scored!

I remember the mancs sat round me when they were being thoroughly outsung, saying - why are they making so much noise? I said - that's proper support.  8)

Birmingham 4 Swindon 6.  Best away game, best comeback, best Easter Monday there has ever been, in history, in the universe ever, ever.

Never left a game so drained.  Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant day.

Also Donny away last year was quality. 30 fans outsinging 3k. quality.

Yep. I remember elbowing some granny in the head (accidentally) when Gurney put that one away.

Also, half time ... That was amazing. Every time the goal was replayed on the big screen the lot of us cheered as if we'd just scored ... very funny.

Also, one that does stick out for the wrong reason was Everton in the cup in 98/99ish. Culverhouse off in 90 seconds ... funny.

That really ruined the match, didn't it?  I'm pretty sure another of ours was sent off later in the game as well.  Hulbert maybe?  Also thirty odd Swindon fans had there cars broken into during the match.  It's funny how you remember things like that.

I really enjoyed the cup game at Old Trafford, despite us losing to their second string.  The most painful moment of the day was trying to walk to the toilet at the service station after drinking far too much.  I don't think I've ever been so bloated :D   I also started singing Steve McMahon's Barmy Army on my own when surrounded by some meatheads singing anti-scouse songs on the way back to the minibus.  Youthful exuberence and all that, I'd never do the same now.

Second one sent off at everton was Gary Elkins.

Yep, totally. The ref didn't, really, need to do it. I've not seen the tackle for ages but if memory serves me Ian tackled Kanchelskis on the corner of the box so hardly stopping a goal scoring opportunity ...

I was at that Everton game too,don't remember Elkins getting off,but it was very depressing so i've probably erased it from my memory :-))(

I was at the everton game aswell. I had a vague memory of seeing a replay and it not actually being handball. He slid in along the line didn't he?

I think I prefer Blackburn in 90, over stoke, but only just.

Shrewsbury 95/96,fucking ace.We won 2-1,getting revenge for the only loss we'd had at the County Ground that season.And at the end no one was going to leave cause we'd been promised a big thank you from the players,so they had to come out,i was squashed against the fence as our heros walked past :D

I was persuaded to go in the seats for that one as I had a broken leg, despite standing on the terrace at Blackpool a couple of weeks before.  On the way to the ground a pub load of Swindon fans sang me 'come on your crutches, you even come on your crutches' :smile1:

Only just clocked this thread. Sorry if it's been mentioned before, but my favourite was our 2-0 win over Oxford. Steve Robinson scored two and they had two sent off. The game was even stopped for a bit because they were throwing so many coins at Mildy. Andy King said they weren't paying him enough because he came off jangling! Happy days

we also got a police escort back to the train station that day. They tried to bundle me on a train to Swindon when I wanted to go back to uni! Took me 10 minutes arguing with the coppers before they'd let me go to the other platform!

only just seen this thread too, most of my favourites have been mentioned - birmingham, tranmere, blackburn. i remember a 4-3 win over bristol rovers in 87 (?) but for some reason it was played at ashton gate, that was pretty special. any away game at brentford is great for me cos my mate's a brentford fan and we always go out and get hammered afterwards.

Id say beating Watford 4-0 away the year we made it to the premier league - Chalkie got a hat trick! - was one of my faves. Also the game at Peterborough which got put on telly was a cracker too ..think it was 3 all?

that was the one where hammond gave them a goal? and hazard had a perfectly good goal disallowed. i can still see his angry little face now.

I remember that Shaun taylor scored 2 for us and an own goal in that game?  He was so good for us in promotion season

Gilligham play-off final at selhurst park when the second goal went in my glasses got knocked off, could not see a thing and then unbelieveablly someone found them about 5 steps down and passed them back just a smal chip on one corner, which is amazing as the celebration went on for about a minute solid everyone going mental, god I miss standing at football.
