Title: Hartlepool
Post by: red macca on Thursday, July 20, 2006, 19:13:40
how many of you from here going just so i know who to avoid apart from birdy as she sounds dirty :D

im staying in redcar from the friday til the sunday but got this of a mate for you lot looking for a decent pub

Well there's the Jacksons Wharf on the Marina, it's about a 5 minute walk to the ground, great little pub which looks out onto the marina, great place to be when it's sunny.

There's The Raglan which is a social club next to the away end, it looks rough but the locals are quite welcoming, there was even Darlo fans in last season so I don't think you'd get any trouble in there!

There's also The Millhouse which is next to the Millhouse Leisure Cente, decent enough but gets very full, especially when it's warm so if you want to drink there I'd get in early or not bother.

There's loads of pubs in the town centre, Victoria Road area (near the Hartlepool Police station, massive brick building) all of which are again about 5 minutes from the away end, the few I can recommend are The Corner House, The Spot and The Emporium which is under the massive Wesley building

Went in the pub near the station 2 years ago, was OK before the game, but very moody after. Krony £1 a bottle.

Last year, went in the pub nearest the ground. Its behind the stand with the terracing on the bottom and seating on the top, across the car park. Reccomend it. Juke box. Pool table. Lots of football programmes on the walls, but didnt get any hassle off the locals, werent many in there which was suprising. Il be in there again.

I'll be doing something along those lines (more likely to be drinking beer than pims though 8) ) I dare say I'll have teh STFC World commentary on as well.

Jeff's lost his 'dancing in the streets of TNS' gag now they've changed their name to 'The New Saints'   I wonder if he's been working on some new routines pre-season?

If you don't hit too much traffic, you could do it in just over four.  I did Durham in just over five hours in the van a couple of weeks back.

For some strange reason I've always wanted to go to their ground, so I should be going up and staying in Geordieland for the night.

It's definitely worth going. It's like going to a non-league game (and I mean that in a complimentary sense) You can go into the Corner Flag bar (I think that's what it's called) and have a beer and a chat with their fans. It's a nice atmosphere.

It's a shame it's not in the middle of the winter though. I think that anyone who has not been to Hartlepool in the middle of winter is a football virgin. It will probably still be cold in August mind you 8)
