Title: Breakdown Cover... Post by: Northern Red on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, 00:21:15 Apologies for another crap post, but who's the best breakdown cover (AA, RAC etc.)?
Any recommendations or bad experiences? I've had a bad one with the AA - 2 hours waiting in on the London M4 Friday night rush hour for a van, who on arrival, took one look at the car and said "Hmmmm, you'll need a low loader" - I know that I told them on the phone I had seized brakes. He sods off and another 1.5 hours later a low loader turns up. 3.5 hours on the side of the M4 waiting for those yellow bastards! Probably not the AA then.... Title: Breakdown Cover... Post by: oxford_fan on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, 00:35:56 my fiesta has broken down about 4/5 times and each time the AA have been superb. always some really nice old bloke and one time he gave me a hire car for the day (for free) when i'm too young to qualify for one. tops.
Title: Breakdown Cover... Post by: yeo on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, 01:57:35 I work for a recovery company(part time when not air traffic controlling)
I think Greenflag are best because they use a network of local agents so the people coming out to you will always have local knowledge to find you and be based locally so should be able to get a recovery truck to you quickest(not always the case if you have a certain amount of people you wont always have someone local). The AA and Rac also use local agents but tend to use their own resourses first even if they are a bit of a distance away. Im sorry Northern but you said yourself it was Friday night rush hour so its hardly suprising that you had a bit of a wait is it? The trucks and mechanics dont get special permission to avoid traffic. The honest truth is the poor saps driving these recovery trucks regularly drive 14-18 hours a day and 1000s of miles with little or no sleep.Ive known blokes drive 36 hours with no sleep. The only way waiting times can be cut is if people are willing to pay twice or three times the amount they do now for breakdown cover and more people can be employed on decent wages. You might also try Brittania Rescue.Everyone shold have breakdown cover by the way.The basic cover costs about £40 for a year but if you have no cover and ring one of the police phones your looking at £105 just to be taken off the motorway. Title: Breakdown Cover... Post by: Ginginho on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, 05:50:59 I use autonational rescue, who I have had no problems with over the years.
I have broken down more times than I can count. About £50-£60 quid for the full (gold) cover I think. Title: Breakdown Cover... Post by: McLovin on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, 08:04:58 I get mine (RAC) cheap through work... only used it twice, and they've been great.
Title: Breakdown Cover... Post by: STFCBird on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, 08:11:40 I am with the AA, never had a problem coz a woman in a car alone has a higher priority, never had to wait more than half an hour
Title: Breakdown Cover... Post by: magicroundabout on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, 08:16:09 i'm with AA and have been for several years now and not once had a problem.
but like yeovil said Northern. Friday night on the M4 in rush hour. no one would get to you quickly. Title: Breakdown Cover... Post by: Bedford Red on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, 19:49:30 Was with the RAC for years; had them out a few times and they were always very good.
With Green Flag now; haven't had to use them yet so can't comment on them. Title: Breakdown Cover... Post by: Sussex on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, 19:57:14 I'm with RAC, and no complaints.. Used them twice and they arrived within 45 minutes both times.

Title: Breakdown Cover... Post by: Dazzza on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, 23:01:19 While were on the subject of cars I'm still sniffing about and have been offered quite a nice cheap kit car.
Has been lovingly looked after and serviced and looks pristine but only has a month left on it’s MOT. Anyone know aside from going to a dodgy mechanic are they particularly tough to get through and is there some sort of a stigma about kit cars that I should know about? Title: Breakdown Cover... Post by: yeo on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, 23:05:58 what is it?
if its had one MOT it should get another ok in the same way as any other car shouldnt it? Is it a bit gay? I bet it is :D Title: Breakdown Cover... Post by: Dazzza on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, 23:15:40 Cheers Yeovil and yes suberbly so it's even got a gay name; Onyx Firecat, only 50 ever made.
