Title: Carl Asaba & Dion Dublin anyone?
Post by: Ginginho on Friday, July 14, 2006, 19:24:25
"Dennis Wise will sign former Millwall front man Carl Asaba as soon as wages/terms can be agreed,in addition Dion Dublin will sign a one year deal with Swindon next week"

This is from the Football rumours site, so obviously I take it with a pinch of salt, but still thought it was worth posting  :D

That site is a joke. Literally. I think it's for people with a sense of humour

Well the only thing which makes these rumours believeable is the fact that Devlin said we were/are in negotions with a a well known player.  I guess Dublin fits that bill, and Asaba to an extent.

He must be late 30's at least; didn't he play for Celtic last season or am I imagining that?

Thanks; thought he was older; seems to have been around for a long time as I remember him playing for Cambridge in the early 90's before Man U signed him.

Remember him bagging a brace for Cambridge at the CG in the early Hoddle era......one of the most remarkable games I've ever seen.....Cambridge played the long ball under the tutelage of John Beck.  This involved defenders and midfield hoofing high hanging balls for the corners at every available opportunity.....then they pressed the ball in the corner to either gain possession or maybe a set piece....it was ugly but effective,  because when they got ball into Dublin he was quality.

They also used to keep the grass in the corners longer to ensure it didn't run out of play as much and the ballboys had towels to dry a wet ball (but only for Cambridge).  Didn't they also paint the away dressing rooms some garish colour and play music loud into that room?
