if people want to focus on ronaldo fine but we need to look at the reasons why we underperformed and not make a scapegoat of another teams player Title: Rooney v Ronaldo Post by: magicroundabout on Thursday, July 6, 2006, 19:58:32 Quote from: "dave_m_russell" don't don't it so personally ginge i can dye my hair you'll always be ugly  Title: Rooney v Ronaldo Post by: DMR on Thursday, July 6, 2006, 19:59:20 yeah

Hopefully McClaren will get them playing a faster paced, more Premiership like style Title: Rooney v Ronaldo Post by: magicroundabout on Thursday, July 6, 2006, 20:07:04 Quote Hopefully McClaren will get them playing a faster paced, more Premiership like style oh i hope so. i also hope he gives Lennon a decent go. i think he's proved he's good enough. Title: Rooney v Ronaldo Post by: DMR on Thursday, July 6, 2006, 20:08:10 I'd rather go with SWP if he does the sensible thing and finds some first team football
Title: Rooney v Ronaldo Post by: magicroundabout on Thursday, July 6, 2006, 20:09:26 worse thing he did was join chelski imo.
if he does leave and find his form again then we have two quality right wingers who can scare the hell out of people Title: Rooney v Ronaldo Post by: DV on Thursday, July 6, 2006, 20:09:43 I like Lennon he offers us natural width....Beckham is a good player but doesnt offer natural width, he isnt the type of wide player who will take on the full back and get past him.
Sadly, the fact Joey Cole isnt an out and out left winger means we also lack natural width on the other side to. Basically we play with no width what so ever. The only chance we ever get is if Ashley Cole overlaps Joe Cole....and when he does Joe Cole generally ignores him anyway. Beckhams good, but Lennon offers us something different.... Title: Rooney v Ronaldo Post by: DMR on Thursday, July 6, 2006, 20:10:22 McClaren has done well with his policy of blooding youngsters too, so maybe he ain't such a bad selection after all.
I still think when fit there's 7 or 8 automatic selections but the dilemmas are (in my opinion); right wing balance in central midfield right back when gary neville goes (sooner rather than later i reckon) goalkeeper Title: Rooney v Ronaldo Post by: DV on Thursday, July 6, 2006, 20:11:16 I agree with the SWP comments.....also remember Lennon is very handy on the left....imagine SWP bombing down one side and Lennon down the other...
Also, we need to find better strikers. Crouch is a decent player, and should be in the squads because he offers something different. A good shake it up last 20 minute player....but there is no way in hell he is good enough to lead the line as Englands main striker, no way in hell Title: Rooney v Ronaldo Post by: DV on Thursday, July 6, 2006, 20:13:05 Quote from: "dave_m_russell" McClaren has done well with his policy of blooding youngsters too, so maybe he ain't such a bad selection after all. Title: Rooney v Ronaldo Post by: DMR on Thursday, July 6, 2006, 20:14:09 I still maintain that Lampard is an automatic pick, he was our best player and top scorer in qualifying- lets not forget Stevie had a terrible Euro and look how he's got better for us.
Title: Rooney v Ronaldo Post by: magicroundabout on Thursday, July 6, 2006, 20:14:51 when Crouch came on for last 20mins or so against Portugal he proved exactly what you said. he offers something different and they didn't know how to handle him.
Rooney IS our first choice striker. I would like to see Defoe along side him. Title: Rooney v Ronaldo Post by: DMR on Thursday, July 6, 2006, 20:18:19 If Darren Bent contines improving he'd have to be the best bet. Defoe is certainly skill but needs to keeps his toys in his pram.

Id disagree, I know we were down to 10...but Crouch offered us nothing and he was no threat to Portugal at all...not his fault....he couldnt hold the ball up though. That game against Argentina was the perfect example of how to use him... I think you cant play both...on current form Gerrard > Lampard....but when hits a rough back they can swap....but I do think Gerrard is a better player than Lampard....and I do wonder how different they would get on if club roles were reversed.
