Title: Wheres Boeta's Cricket thread?
Post by: Spencer_White on Friday, February 4, 2005, 21:01:59
Il have the honour of starting one instead.

Another very entertaining game, credit to SA.

Didnt understand why the Port Elizabeth crowd booed Pietersen. Id never go to a game with the intention of booing any cricket player. It was totally premeditated and unecessary and just not in the spirit of the game. Much more lively crowd than Bloemfontein mind.

Geriant Jones' wicket keeping was somewhat exposed (ableit in difficult circumstances). Ali did better than expected, but attack still one short.

Next one on sunday. Good series.

Pietersen's got booed by the crowd in all four games (3 ODIs + warm up).

The fact is that without Harmison and Flintoff - our two strike bowlers - we really are going to struggle to defend a score up aaginst South Africa's long batting line-up.

Trescothick's decision to give Hoggard the 46th over wasn't a clever one (and I said so before it was bowled on a cricket board) as Hoggy doesn't bowl the right length for the death.

Still, looking forward to Sunday.

Did you watch Englands innings? I only watched theirs. The old boy was bemoaning how England failed to turn enough 'ones' into 'twos' in the first innings. Then SA seemed to effectively target our slower fielders and weaker arms in the field? Happy with Englands innings?

I thought the booing of Pietersen was much more pronounced today, everytime he even got near the ball. It has to be said South Africans are some of the worst losers in the world. I love beating them because I know it winds them up!

Hoggard was unlucky to have that ball changed. That takes out his end of innings weapon - swing. It was difficult for Tres. GET WELL OUR FRED!

Nah I didn't see our innings. Purely based on looking at the scorecard we didn't accelerate enough at the end, we were looking towards 280-290 with 10 overs to go.

By the way, at the nets on Thursday night Paul Lazenbury (http://www.cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Players/8/8240/8240.html) said he was shocked that I don't play for Gloucs U19s[/url]

This is a weakness that has plagued England for a while when they bat first,  not sure what the answer is but without a target they seem to settle for a conservative run a ball, which was never likely to be enough on a half decent pitch and smallish boundary.

The Aussies chased down 320+  there recently.
