Title: Brake Lights
Post by: Luci on Wednesday, July 5, 2006, 07:55:59
Ok, so yes my brakes went a couple of weeks ago but now my brake lights have gone. (Both of them so its not the bulbs)

Anyone know what it could be and how much it could cost? Car is currently sat in the garage with some pervy old man opposite my work so havent a clue when it will be ready  :(

a fuse is a couple of quid and dead easy to change, you just need to find the right fuse for the brake light!

saying 'its not the bulbs'... have you actually taken one out and had a look to seeif the filament is intact ?  They shouldn't go together, because they are on different circuits, but if they were put in at the smae time they some times fail within a few weeks of each other, just because they are the same age.

actually a couple of days ago, a guy at work (although i use the term loosely) with a smart car needed jump starting - it took us 15 minutes to find the battery, under the passengers footwell under a big chunk of polystyrene.  quite how you flatten the battery on something you could basically run off the AAAs in my mp3 player, i don't know

In my mondeo the main fusebox is in the engine bay and well labelled (see owners manual).

The auxiliary fuse box is behind the sodding glove box and unlabelled. When I needed to replace my ciggy lighter fuse I had to use trial and error on 40 odd fuses until I found the right one (2nd last one obviously).

Always check the bulbs just in case, they'll charge you 20 quid to change them now even if thats all it is.

Cost £27, absolute rip off but can't drive down the 419 to get home otherwise so no choice.
