NTL are awful. Took me three months to convince them I'd moved house and didn't want their shitty service any more

Yeovil - In internet explorer go to internet options and then connection options (the tab at the top of the window that pops up).

Click on LAN settings and enter in the proxy server details

My shiny new BT Broadband is ace. Only got it today.

NTL never answered when i tried to cancel, so i just stopped my direct debit 8)

Some companies are bastards and will go all out.  They may take it as non-payment and after a couple of months it may turn up on your rating.

Depends on the contract but better be safe than sorry.
