Title: Steve Gerrard Post by: hansgruber on Sunday, May 14, 2006, 20:43:13 He's never really done it for England though has he?
Title: Steve Gerrard Post by: DMR on Sunday, May 14, 2006, 20:48:59 No but he's had to sit back and reign himself in to allow Lampard to roam.
Give him freedom and he'll be one cracking outside bet for the golden boot. You heard it here first folks. Dave is right, cant play Lamps and Gerrard in the same team....means one has to shelve their game for the other one... Title: Steve Gerrard Post by: Amir on Sunday, May 14, 2006, 20:56:15 It's the perfect opportunity to put Carrick in and push Gerrard on, what with Rooney being out(seeing as he'd never drop golden balls). Still he's already come out and said if Rooney doesn't make it he'll probably play Crouch and Owen together
Title: Steve Gerrard Post by: Spud on Sunday, May 14, 2006, 21:13:16 Gerrard & Carrick in the centre for me.
Lampard and Gerrard dont play well in the middle together so i'd drop Lampard. Title: Steve Gerrard Post by: DMR on Sunday, May 14, 2006, 21:18:27 You can't drop Lampard whose been our best player for ages.
Carrick & Lampard in the centre with Stevie pushed forward. Title: Steve Gerrard Post by: red macca on Sunday, May 14, 2006, 21:28:22 Quote from: "dave_m_russell" You can't drop Lampard whose been our best player for ages. my ideal team would be with 3 centre backs ..we have arguably the best midfeild in the world so why dont we maximise that?? even more so in about two years everyone slags off gary neville but anyone actually see any decent replacements coming throughCarrick & Lampard in the centre with Stevie pushed forward. Title: Steve Gerrard Post by: red macca on Sunday, May 14, 2006, 21:29:50 Quote from: "dave_m_russell" You can't drop Lampard whose been our best player for ages. who would you drop if you did that though..(genuine question)Carrick & Lampard in the centre with Stevie pushed forward. Title: Steve Gerrard Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Monday, May 15, 2006, 00:13:30 How many teams in the premiership use three centre backs?
I think it's a lot better to have two centre backs and someone like Carrick as a holding midfielder. There's no way Lampard should be dropped. Gerrard could be good in that role for some games and definitely if neither Owen or Rooney are fit. Title: Steve Gerrard Post by: red macca on Monday, May 15, 2006, 07:43:42 Quote from: "Ben Wah Balls" How many teams in the premiership use three centre backs? none ben your right..but our strongest positions are in centre defence and midfeild..our problems occur when we try to make things work by putting luke young or carragher as a right back,if cole was not fit we would have a poor wayne bridge.. just think of the centre halves we have now and coming through terry, ferdinand, carragher, woodgate (if fit).king, dawson, ferdinand even curtis davies and look how yound that lot are..we have allways struggle defensivly at tournaments and with this lot of players coming through this should not be the case anymore..oh and ben how can you compare international football to the premiershipI think it's a lot better to have two centre backs and someone like Carrick as a holding midfielder. There's no way Lampard should be dropped. Gerrard could be good in that role for some games and definitely if neither Owen or Rooney are fit. Title: Steve Gerrard Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Monday, May 15, 2006, 08:47:18 I just mean our centre-backs (and alos most of our other players) aren't used to playing in a 3-5-2 although I'm sure they could adapt. I think the reason 3-5-2 isn't used too much now is because more and more teams are playing with one up front.
Title: Steve Gerrard Post by: fatbury on Monday, May 15, 2006, 08:58:22 Id like to see Gerrard in that floaty role off the front player for England .. worrying about the cramps he got tho ... wouldnt be good in extra time v Germany say
Title: Steve Gerrard Post by: Luci on Monday, May 15, 2006, 10:42:43 With regards to formations, have a go at this....

Title: Steve Gerrard Post by: flammableBen on Monday, May 15, 2006, 18:18:18 Can't be arsed with defence...
Without Rooney: Lampard Carrick Beckham Cole Gerrard Crouch/Owen Seems to be the genearal agreement then. In an effort to turn this tread into a beckham debate, I'd go.. With Rooney: Lampard Carrick Gerrard Cole Rooney Crouch/Owen Sorry about the slightly off layout, couldn't be arsed to line up all the spaces.
