Title: Chippenham 2 Bedford Town 3

Well done Bedford, 3rd time lucky in the play-offs, commiserations to Chippenham, that's their 2nd failure in a row (that's what happened to Bedford last season).

Apparantly a 25 yarder into the top corner with 15 seconds to go won it, best way to do it I say.

So into Conference South for Bedford next year, just two leagues below Swindon now!

Darren perrin sounded gutted. He broke my dads leg when they used to play footie together!!

Felt a bit sorry for them, as its their second season on the bounce like that.

I feel sorry for them as well,we all know what losing in the play-offs is like.

Bedford have missed out on the past two seasons though, would have been their 3rd yr in a row if they'd lost today so I think the Gods were looking after them today.

I bet your Dad's not such a big fan of Darren Perrin then?

They had a good season finishing 7th, were pushing hard for the play-offs at one point. Mates from work went to see Bedford at Banbury earlier in the season, think Banbury won 3-2 that day and they said they were a decent side. Maybe next yr for them.

:D  My dad does not really have anything against him really. Darren sent my dad a letter apologising soon after it happened which was decent of him!

I would have gone today out of curiosity if I wasn't ill.  Chippenham just don't seem to be able to win games that are all or nothing(Vase, FA Cup, Two play-off finals).  Can't say I give a damn about them myself, although they were the last club to sing We Hate Oxford at Wembley.

Was hoping for Bath at Trumpton personally.

My local team, Braintree Town have had a good bit of friendly rivalry with Bedford over the last few years until they switched from the Ryman to the Southern League.

They are a well supported club and I look forward to the rivalry being renewed in the Conference South next season. 8)

So do I OST. St Albans beat Bedford in the play-offs two yrs ago and have now gained promotion to the Conference today, so I fancy Bedford for at least a top half finish next season.

You just hope that clubs such as Braintree and Bedford have really got their finances sorted out and have a long term plan because on the one hand, at Conference South level you are, in theory, only two seasons away from the football league but on the other, you look at Canvey where 'Mr Canvey', Big Jeff King has pulled out and as a result they have resigned from the Conference and are looking at dropping about three levels to Ryman 1 or Southern League div 1 East which is a massive shame I think, given all the hard work that's gone into getting them into that position in the first place.

Bedford seem to have a sensible chairman.

They built a big new clubhouse pre-season which holds loads of different functions and brings in loads of money re conferences etc which is so important to any club.

Also, because the support was down a bit at the start of the season, the manager had to cut the squad by a couple of players. The Chairman wasn't prepared to get the club into debt, risking the clubs finances on gambling on promotion.

Bedford did well this season, they had the smallest squad and budget out of the 4 play-off sides and won both play-off matches away from home.

I do feel they will be fine in Conference South, and will get decent support which means they can survive at that level. I could also see them doing ok if they got to the Conference, but I'd prefer to see them consolidate in Conf South for a while.

It is a big shame for Canvey, I didn't realise just how much Jeff King was piling into them every week to keep them going though.
He's gone to Chelmsford now though and the manager's been sacked there, the fans aren't happy with what's going on at the moment.

I must have been having a piss at the time  .  I know there were a lot of STFC fans at that game.

I like to think that Braintree are pretty well run as well.  I also think they will be ok in the Conference South.  The really big jump is when you go from there to the Conference where at least half the clubs these days are full time. Money is a massive factor these days at all levels of the game - sad but true.

For anyone who's interested; this link

should work, and you can see Bedford's winning goal on either Windows or Media player. Not a bad strike to win the game.

Over the moon the chippenham scum lost.  Congrats Bedford.

I still haven't forgiven fat boy Saunders leaving Calne and taking our best players with him!!  That could have been Calne at Wembley!
