Title: Next Season
Post by: Ralphy on Monday, April 24, 2006, 16:31:46
I've totally forgot about this season now and am looking forward to a succesful one in league 2.

We need to all pull together and get this club out of division 4 cos we don't belong there.

I'd like to see a big, hard tackling centre back, a couple of good hard midfielders and some decent wide players and then we'll be on our way.

No fucking depressing pessimism, we're going up as fucking champions  :agree:

Just out of interest, how many teams in recent years have come straight back up after being relegated from league 1/Div 2?

I blame the cunting board, cunt players and poor management.

Take saturday, it was clear after 5 mins that Paul Smith was injured and we carried him for the whole first half cos Iffy didn't sub him, why???

I agree with you 100% Ralphus.

I am actually looking forward to next season now because I do believe we have the potential to come back up again.

Even though the majority of the grounds in that league are pretty pants, in a way it will be good to see a bit of character and see grounds we've never seen before and the atmosphere in the away ends will be really good aswell as I expect most will be terracing.

If we keep hold of curo and peacock next season, they could be a real good strike force in that league.

Bring it on. Rovers away first game of the season please  :D

We're all living on our Club history. But in real life we will struggle against local non league sides.
We deserve to finish bottom this season.  A massive clear out is needed.

We need a manager in the mould of Lou Macari to bully the players into fitness and get us out of this league.

I can remember seeing Rotherham fans saying "were be straight back up as Champions next year!" afer being relegated from The Championship, they got that prediction spot on.

its not exactly rocket science, take off your red tinted specs and, like i said, the bookies will put us up there (if we stay up, and it is still if) now that we've got jim and a chairman who will invest.

Depressing stuff but looking at those that have gone down over the past 5 years....

04/05
Torquay - 23rd & Candidates for relegation to the conference
Wrexham - 12th League Two
Peterborough - 8th League Two
Stockpork - 20th League Two

03/04
Grimsby - 3rd League Two
Rushden - Conference football next year
Notts Cunts - 18th League Two
Wycombe - 5th League Two

02/03
Cheltenham - 6th League Two
Huddersfield - 4th League One
Mansfield  - 15th League Two
Northampton - 2nd League Two

01/02
Bournemouth - 3rd League One
Bury - 17th League Two
Wrexham - 12th League Two
Cambridge - Non League

00/01
Bristol Rovers - 9th League Two
Luton - 10th Championship
Swansea - 6th League One
Oxford -  :D

Only four plus Wrexham (who subsequently went back down) have managed to win promotion back out of the basement league.

On top of that all four have had a change of regime and a degree of investment or in Swansea’s case had serious development off the pitch.

On top of that the current top five in league two have all had varying degrees of investment from Northampton and Wycombe who have spent a considerable amount of money to the more modest yet notable Carlisle and Orient.

50% of all of those sides are now languishing in the bottom half of the table, can’t see how we'll be any different.   :(

unfortunately though history doesn't mean anything and your league status is down to results. if you look at the table there are a few teams there with decent pedigree in terms of what division they've been in over the years.

We don't belong in league 2 Oxford Fan, look at the teams in that league. Apart from yourselves, Carlisle, Rovers  and maybe Notts County, we're be the biggest club in that league next season.

Carlisle of course will be in league 1 though.

Don't for one sec think we're too big for L2, we're there because our budget and set up is very much L2 and in  many ways sub Conference.

Next season is about trying to hang onto league status...we've a number of players signing up who on recent evidence would struggle to get a game for Salisbury.

maybe we can do it with a new manager .. but Iffy hasnt the experience or ability im afraid

on the plus side .. i expect the youths to finally get their chance - Leigh Henry is a must for the team .. along with Caton and Lukas

If we can keep the Peaconator and Curo .. we will have one of the most potent attacks in the division

Paul Smith will do well ... as long as we sign him ... I sadly think Sean O and Rhys will be saying farewell .. but we havent a bad side for that division

Cureton has scored one goal on an away ground this season, can you really see him plugging away on a wet Wednesday in Rochdale.

Cureton needs to move on, SOH and Evans will leave.

Paul Smith is a problem...he could be great but at his age after so many games wear and tear injuries tend to catch up wiht you.

Next season I will probably be happy with mid table obscurity, provided there were some signs off the pitch that we have bottomed out and things can be turned around.

I see people have beat me to it, but I very much doubt we will go straight back up...

P'boro...Boston are both nothing speical in league two yet beat us rather easily..

Wycombe destroyed us and they are only 5th, although they did have tyson there.

We cant even beat league two teams with our league one squad

your right although i may just add that Wycombe are a very good side even for league one standard. they'd probably still be top of league 2 had John Gorman not had personal problems
