gloucestershire finish the day on 252/4, harvs and gidders both unbeaten in the 20s. would love them to both ton up tomorrow. the forecast suggests somerset should escape with a draw

we are the best local side to watch, harvs' destructive hitting, spearman' and gidman's classy strokes, bond's sheer pace, lewis' swing and accuracy  and kirby's agression and not particularly nice vocabularly

the only player worth watching at somerset is hildreth

I have plenty of reasons why it is better.

Can't be bothered to list them.

Obviously if we win the WC I'll change my mind but it's never going to happen.

Very debatable point Reg. I think you'll find Bristol (or at least part of it) is in South Gloucestershire, which is almost like a district of Gloucs (a very Australian concept i must admit)

don't forget to tell village that gloucestershire host the best outground festival in world cricket - the two weeks in cheltenham in late july/early aug or what cricket was made for. personally i'd support gloucestershire just for the cheltenham festival. also spend a week of the season in gloucester

I went to my fist ever county game last year. 20/20 game between Goucester and Somerset (I think?) at the County Ground.

Left work early to catch the train down to bristol (was an evening match) got into Temple Meads no problem and decided to get a taxi to the ground. 30 mins later through rush hour traffic and shitting my pants a few times due to crazy driving taxi driver and minus £20 for the 5 mile journey I arrived at ground.

13 overs in, the game was called off due to pissing rain, I only managed to get through a couple of beers before it was called off. I think Somerset were about 60-7 after 13 overs!

I walked back to the station in the pissing rain stopping off at a couple of dodgy boozers. I'm not going again.

As Boeta says - it's the best festival venue in the world and if you don't enjoy cricket there you never will.

I quite fancy that 40 over match in Cheltnum....been to a fair few games there, its not a patch on the Bath Festival...or the late lamented Weston Festival.

Cheltnum is full of poxy public school  types right up their own arses.

Still the GCC fans do run a decent benefit quiz in Cheltnum, and its always a pleasure to batter (in a quiz sense) the masters of Clifton College, Bristhole and sundry other minor public schools.

Think we've had this debate before but Bristhole was its own county from 1373.

Some of its overspill, may have sullied the verdant and pristine fields of the otherwise wholesome county of Gloucestershire....but that's not a good reason to play cricket there.

Could you tell us a bit about Cameron, please Johno...he seems to have crept into Somerset cricket beneath my radar.?

Reg, Cameron White is the captain of Victoria, aged 22. So he oversaw the 900 run massacre.

He started off a leg-spinner when he broke into the Vics side but his batting has improved dramatically but his bowling hasn't moved anywhere. He'll be a good bowler in one-dayers but in first-class he's pretty much a dud as he can't actually spin it - hardly bowled himself at all for the Vics this year. Over the last 2-3 years he's got a lot of 50s and a couple of tons for the Vics so this year will be a big learning curve for him in making big hundreds and doubles. Seeing as Taunton is a batsman's paradise (I know you wouldn't believe it looking at the shower of shit they call a batting line up) he should rack up some impressive scores this year.

Dan Cullen is an off-spinner from South Aus - also 22 years old. He's had two fantastic years in Aus first-class cricket ripping up shitloads of wickets. He's seen as the next big spin bowler (although being a conventional offie he ain't gonna be half as good as Warne) and has recently been called up to the ODI squad for the Bangladesh tour.

However, neither of them are in the same class as another Aussie, Gloucestershire's true legend Ian Harvey. 45 runs and 5 wickets in the match as we win by an innings. Welcome back Harvs!
