26 March saw a full smoking ban in Scotland. Some of my mates that have visited boozers have given me good reports and I can't wait to visit my local boozer next to my work which used to be the smokiest pub in the world!

You can imagine the places right on the border....where some locals will cross over to go to a pub in England for a fag and others will go to Jockoland for smoke free.

 Then there always seems to be at least one pub, where the lounge bar is in England and the public bar in Scotland.

when does it come in force here in good ol Blighty?  cos im sick of having to have my lunch in a pub (theres no where else and i hate sandwiches) and having people smokin all over me

Other people hate smoke free environments. Whilst I will be personally glad of the cleaner air I'm not going to shout from the rooftops about it. I think it's unfair on the smokers tbh. It's moved from one end of the spectrum to the other.

But smoking has no point to it! Smokers are the most selfish people around and I am glad I am no longer going to be subjected to the horrendous cancerous smell that these fuckwits submit me to.

There no much point to Scotland, but you dont see me going on about it do you?

For what its worth I'm not nearly as bothered by the forhcoming English smoking ban as I was. After spending a long weekend in Dublin a couple of months ago, going outside stopped pissing me of after a couple of days. Would have been prime pulling territory too had I not been with the mrs at the time.

This geezer in the paper today is a non-smoker but is so against the ban that he started smoking on the night before the ban was introduced.

I was tempted to say fair play to him, but thats just fucking stupid

Although I'm strictly social these days I wouldn't dream of lighting up in a restaurant smoking or non-smoking or anywhere outside of a pub and even then it's usually only if I'm in the comapny of other smokers and it's not treading on peoples toes.

Spot on about Dublin as well it's like hidden treasure.

Lot of bars/clubs near me have gone half way and enforced a smoking ban in an area spanning 1m by the bar.   :D

I apologise for being harsh. I strongly believe that smokers should not subject others to their dangerous fumes. If you want to smoke then its your choice at the end of the day. I choose not to so would rather not inhale the fumes of others.

Similarly, I enjoy a spot of hand hockey like the next man, but I choose not to do it in a public place! (Clearly a stupid analogy but never mind!)

I must breath plenty of car fumes on the way to uni and I'm not going to try and ban cars!

unfortunately the government won't cripple itself just after potentially cutting down it's revenue from tobacco to cut it's revenue from petrol just yet. wait til we're all giving 40% of what we earn to the government directly for that to happen

In California, aren't they trying to pass a State Law to ban smoking in public, yes anywhere but your home pretty much.

They are also about to push for legislation to reduce CO2 emissions by 30%, including laws on emissions from cars.

They also seem to have lots of lovely ladies.

Sounds like I might be at home there.

Smoking in pubs should be banned, just to stop my clothes smelling like an ashtray.

Yeah but the cars are outside. If they were just driving around in the pub I'd probably want them banned.

It is a totally different point but no less valid in my point of view. Like I said before, personally I think a smoke free environment will be better for me, but I really couldn't care if it didn't get banned in public places. The fact that I'm going to look like a larry as everyone goes outside for a ciggy doesn't appeal.

I think in the long run it'll stop people from smoking as a lot of people won't be arsed to keep going outside all the time.

I've always believed that tehre should be a ban on smoking in restaurants, but in pubs i'm not overly bothered. I'm not a fan of smoking, so i won't be complaining when it comes in south of the border.
