Title: Colchester away
Post by: el duque on Monday, March 13, 2006, 11:47:03
I'm off to Ipswich next weekend for a christening (lucky me)... As a London dweller, I'm trying to persuade the memsahib that it would be terribly rude not to stop off in Colchester on the way there for a few jars, and a bit of shouting. However, she does not seem convinced...

Anyone been there before? Is it a trip worth making? What is the ticket situation likely to be? Is there pay on the day, or does one have to be organised?

Too many questions for a Monday morning... Sorry about that.

http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/town/park/yfh45/colchest.htm

its a fairly basic ground, only holds 6000 odd. never been before but will probably make the trip.

according to that site we'll get an allocation of around 700-800. based on last 2 away trips thats less than we took however yeovil is close and forest is always a crowd puller. can't see us taking many more than the usual 400ish however as its coming to the end of season push you might see a few more.

I think it was last season (when we won 1-0 with Migs on the left and Parkin scoring the winner) I went and had a decent day.  The ground is a bitch to find, but it's a fairly decent atmosphere and there was a good bit of banter.  I'll go if I can afford the tickets.

Old school ground, but not particularly special.....away end terracing about 5 deep....decent pub fro away fans nearby, but lacks a convenient chip shop.

I'm being pestered to go....but as part of the Quiet and Ashamed campaign will probably give it a miss and opt for Scunthorpe.

Work  :x

I'm thinking of Scunthorpe, but I don't know if I can afford it and I don't know if its really worth bothering. A tough decision that I am scared to make. If I went and we won it would be money more than well spent. If we lose I will feel so crap and wioll have wasted over £30

Yeah the campaign is gathering momentum....the Tranmere game was meant to be a Q and A "special" but I was too quiet to advertise it....nevertheless it turned out pretty well....the Tranny second goal was the quietest I ever heard at the CG.

I've been thinking of a website, but am too ashamed at the moment...although a Q and A  section with Mark Devlin for this site has been suggested before.

I'm not going. Been there before. Shit ground- one of the worst i've been to in my opinion. For some strange reason, they have away fans at both ends. One end for standing and a little section in the far corner for seating. Good pub at then end of the road which the ground is on.

Season before last, I got very lost trying to find the ground, luckily stumbled upon the Swindon team bus so followed that to the ground.

Don't get conned into the dodgy carpark just down the road. You'll pay a fiver, then sit waiting for ages after the game for about 20 other people to return to there cars before you can get yours out.

is it not already my name? Dave keeps texting me to tell me Joey Beachump has VD and you kept singing in on Saturday

Obsession....

Ahhhh Layer Road, we've won 1-0 on the last two occasions. Last season Super Sammy Parkin scored after about 9 minutes.

The season before we battered them, looked like it was going to be 0-0 then in the 89th minute Mooney scored. It was the start of something speical and the moment Mooneymania began....
