I would definitely go so far as to say I hate them, can't stand them. However I'm not too keen on Real Madrid either so I'm not too bothered who wins this one.

Would like to see an English team win the champions league again though.

Just like Ashley I fancy the Arse.

They just seem to have a more powerful, penetrating and agggressive look to them than any Spaniards side I've seen.  If they can pump the balls up to the back line they'll be close to penetrating.

Oh and Madrid to win the footy.

BOOM BOOM

Actually on a semi serious note I am having sneaky notion Arsenal may just come out of nowhere and make the final this year.    Bit like Liverpool last season the pressure is off in the Premiership and if a few of their senior players come good I’d fancy a couple of quid on them as outsiders.

Beckham? Useless? :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick:

He was the one Madrid player that ever looked like scoring. He got the ball out wide and looked comfortable, and kept breaking through behind the defence. If he can come in off the wing like that for England I will be more than happy.

You poor misguided young man-just look at the stats regarding his pass completion tomorrow,I doubt he completed 40% of his attempted passes. He gives the ball away more often than any english player. You cant afford that at any level. And he couldn't finish a sandwich!

What a thoroughly deserved win for the Gooners.  Let's hope they don't live to regret not getting the second goal they so deserved.  I can see them 'doing a Liverpool' and winning the whole thing.

Henry has scored some great goals but that has to be in the top three or four.

hleb has been pretty good for arsenal so far, when he first came in he played like he'd been in the arsenal side for ages, easily adapting to their passing style.

then he got injured and he's just got full match fitness back, he looked good even when he was still getting it back. don't really agree that there was ever much expectation, he was only £4.4m or something and looks like he's worth much more than that to me, he quality.

Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Wednesday, February 22, 2006, 14:51:18
Hleb looks like an excellent prospect. The ball appears to be glued to his foot when he plays.  I'm very pleased Arsenal won last night because they really do play the game the way it should be played and there is not a better to team to watch on their day. It had however, been looking like things were starting to go badly pear shaped for them.

Yes, I know it was not a vintage Real Madrid performance but that is not Arsenal's fault and you have to give some credit to Arsenal for not letting Real play. I suspect Wenger is quite correct in seeking to recruit young, hungry players when you see those players up against Real's 'Galacticos', many of whom are, frankly, past their best (Ronaldo, Santos etc).

Last night makes me think that the rebuilding process is definitely under way. Hleb was excellent, the defence were rock solid, I liked the look of Emmanuel Eboue at right back and Lehmann (Of whom I am no great fan) did not put a foot wrong. I really hope they can hold on to Henry, I really do.

In case you were wondering, I have no connection with Arsenal. They are not my 'second team' (that's Braintree Town!) I just love football and the way Arsenal play is the epitome of how the game should be played. I would love them to 'do a Liverpool' and win the whole thing.

also remember that they've got kerry gilbert to come back at right back, he looks like a great talent.

teams like arsenal and man utd shouldn't be going through these "rebuilding" phases though, the squad should be managed effectively so that they're challenging every year. with the money in football nowadays and chelsea's position, a 'transition season' is quite dangerous.

arsenal would have been fine had they replaced vieira with a similarly experienced player, whilst man utd have had ruud/rio/keane problems.

If you put it that way it's easy isn't it?

You lose a world class player who is the focal point of your team and you simply go out and replace him with another proven world class player and of course no other clubs will want to sign this player, the player concerned will only want to sign for your club and his agent wont be in the slightest bit interested in getting an auction going. (and Chelsea wont be waiting in the wings hoping to fuck things up)

Jeez, what's the problem!!!!!!!!!!!

You should pass your comments on to messrs Wenger and Ferguson who I am sure would be extremely grateful for your words of enlightenment 8)

Man Utd have:

Rooney
Smith
Brown
O'Shea
Fletcher
Neville
Ferdinand

Both of them use plenty of British talent, which means i prefer them to Arsenal.

As the great Homer Simpson once said, "by the way, that's sarcasm!"
it was pretty obvious that fabrigas and flamini were going to be a bit lightweight for central midfield in the premiership for the first couple of seasons and thats been a big problem for them, bringing in a soon to retire player on a free for two seasons would have tided them over nicely. players as good as gravesen were going pretty cheap (and they could have coped with someone not as good as him) and if wenger had anticipated the impact of his departure a bit better they could be challenging for the premiership this season.

didn't wenger himself admit that his departure hurt the team more than he expected?

all of this being said with the benefit of hindsight, obviously.

Del Horno shouldn't have been sent off, as he was going for the ball and tried to stop himself once he went past it, disgusting overacting from Messi, pathetic diving cunt.

I think Chelsea would have won again if it wasn't for that given their second half performance with ten men but even with one more player Barcelona weren't much better than them, so Chelsea do still have a chance but Barcelona are probably favourites now with the away goals. Hopefully Barcelona will go out next round if they go through though.

well i don't think it was a sending off. it was just a badly timed tackle, which was over reacted by both players.

barca did look qualiy, but chelsea were backing off them too much at times, letting them play too much.

Title: madrid vs arsenal
Post by: timmyg on Thursday, February 23, 2006, 10:52:53
Barca could of (and should of) had at least a couple more. The hand-ball by Geremi was blatent, and the rugby tackle by Terry on Messi (who was awesome) was a penalty too. He just charged through him and then fell onto the ball.

The red-card was deserved I thought, as Del Horno could well have been booked 10 seconds earlier when Messi made him look a fool for the 10th time, then he deliberatley bodychecked him, and then he rolled around pretending to be injured to avoid the red (like Essien v Bolton).

Chelsea did very well when down to 10 men, and Gudjohnsen was awesome. But I think Mourinho got it worng by going all out in the second half. He looked like a tit in the post match interviews as well.  was watching with Italian commentary so don't know how biased Andy Gray was, but I reckon Chelsea got off lightly against a better team and are still in the tie. It could well have been all over by now.

Mourinho is unbelievable. He was moaning about Messi rolling around on the ground when there was nothing wrong with him but defended Robben for doing the same thing against Liverpool.

That sort of bullshit sickens me.

I personally think both players should have been booked for being poncy dago fucking drama queens.

Title: madrid vs arsenal
Post by: janaage on Thursday, February 23, 2006, 12:54:22
OST couldn't agree more, Mourinho's let himself down here.

- Porto v Celtic UEFA Cup final, Porto win after players diving all over the place for 120mins.

- Robben v Liverpool a couple of weeks ago

- Look at Del Horno rolling all over the place at the same time as Messi was doing it.

Mourinho's been on the other end of this sort of thing before (ie diving and getting away with it) and should be man enough to take the rough with the smooth.  His reaction shows what a bad loser he really is.  How he's going on about UEFA banning Messi is beyond me.

The first 'tackle' wasn't given as a foul, and perhaps influenced the ref for the second one, though the clip doesn't show the hack at Messi just before the body-check, and the consequent rolling around on the floorby Del Horno...

Red card for me. Should have gone for the first one.

I don't think the first one should have been given as a foul either, he's going for the ball and he gets it, nothing wrong with that. Again, the second time he's going for the ball and can't stop himself hitting Messi, a booking would've been fine.

the challenge was a collision of bodies, not a raised boot or owt.

you bunch of girls.

wait til i get my hands to refereeing, it'll be a revolution.

That's what I was thinking. They were tough challenges but that's part of football and the cheat Messi deserves to be involved in a few. He's just lucky he doesn't have to play against me.

I can highly recommend a visit the Bernabau - absolutely stunning stadium, great place to watch footy. Cheap flights from Bristol with EasyJet.

My boss at work went and said it was a fantastic stadium. Although she thought it was strange to go up an escalator and not walk up stairs; and they also had bar heaters in the roof to warm the fans.

She also doesn't like heights and was about 7 rows from the top so it took her a little while to get used to how high she was.

every team at that level dives, chelsea included. it really fucks me off when the man utd and arsenal fans around here see reyes/drogba/ronaldo diving and lay into him for being a cheat, when their players do the same and they laugh it off. mugs the lot.

they weren't tough challenges.

I think every team in The Premiership has got one or two players that like the odd dive.

But Messi didn't dive....

He was clattered into by Del Horno.

He rolled around as if shot, but so did Del Horno. I don't think the ref was influenced in his decision by either player rolling...

Weren't Arsenal shockingly bad against Blackburn, lucky to get away with such a slim defeat. That's the Arsenal I like to see. Much more entertaining than usual.

as opposed to beating real madrid perhaps?

dude your team lost to barca and arsenal lost to blackburn. it happens. just means chelsea hopefully won't win something this year and arsenal are a tiny step closer to it
