Title: Donny formation....
Post by: STFC Village on Tuesday, September 27, 2005, 02:34:55
Ok, Iffy's first game in charge tonight, how do you think he'll play it?

My guess is we could be seeing something different....both personnel and formation wise....i think we'll start with a 4-4-2...

Gk Heaton
Rb Jenkins
Lb Nicholas
Cb O'Hanlon
Cb Ifil
Rm Shakes
Lm Nicolau
Cm Pook
Cm Heath
Fc Fallon
Fc Roberts

Subs: Bulman, Smith, Thorpe, Whalley, Cureton

My logic tells me that, as Iffy played as a striker, he'll want to be more attacking in his formations than King.

That's exactly how I would go, as I said in another thread Pook and McDermott should be able to do the donkey work to allow Shakes and Nicolau to get down the wings.

As long as the wingers play I'll be reasonably happy as long as the two CMs put themselves about.

Wasn't Kingy also an attack minded player?

Yes, but for some reason he totally forgot that somewhere along the way.

Is he a decent midfielder??

CB:Collins

Kinky and Sonic that's a very very young midfield.  I think managers like to have someone in their with a bit of experience, even if it is Whalley!

I know, but both Pook and McDermott seem willing to get more stuck in than Whalley is, so on that basis I'd give them a go - basically Iffy has nothing to lose by trying something different.

Perhaps we might see Jack Smith move into midfield at some point, but as I say as long as both Ricky and Nicky play I'll be reasonably happy with whoever plays alongside them.

Oooh Ricky and Nicky playing in the same team, with Smith and Nicho supporting them, bloody hell that's almost attacking football. Steady on chaps!!

Would be nice though.

Take it you're not going tonight?  You're going to be seething that you've not made the trip - bright, energetic, flowing football - Pook and Fallon to score!

You going to MK?

Mate I'm having a nightmare at the moment.  I bought a house with my g/f two months ago and we're still in the middle of doing it up.  Kitchen's getting fitted this week, carpets laid this weekend and next weekend, electrician popping around to do his stuff this saturday.  So no I can't make it to MK this weekend.  Gutted, as I loved going there last year.

Tonight was always gonna be a no no to be honest.

I don't think it will make any differenece...when you look at a midfield 4 like SY has laid out, its just too weak for L1, even when Migs and Whalley were in there it was dodgy at best........which is why King took the logical step of trying to shore it up by playing 4-5-1.....If we gamble on 4-4-2....we'll go down by more than a single goal.

Is it just me or does Michael Pook have the stance of Renee Gattuso?  Just the way he runs, reminds me of the Meeeee-lan legend.  Obviously his football ability is less than similar.

Bit of a weird comparison I know.

I like the team SY has mapped out, however I think that he wont start Roberts but Tony Thorpe instead....

I stick with my more experience in the middle needed.

Migs and Jenks still out I suspect. Whalley not performing. Agreed strength and experience needed in midfield - don't be surprised to see Gurney back in centre mid. Heath has shown skill and penetration so is worth another go on the left. Nicolau too lightweight and no end product. Shakes has pace to burn but must take em on!!

I'd like to see

.............Heaton..................
Smith Ifil O'Hanlon Nicholas
Shakes Gurney Pook Heath
...........Fallon Thorpe...........

but if he has to play Collins as part of the loan deal it could be
Nicho to bench, Smith to LB, Collins RB

Drop Collins, if it goes against the loan, tell him to f*** off.  I haven't been impressed with him at all.

I would go with your suggestion of Gurney in the middle too, if his ban isn't extended.
