Title: Browse to Save Virus
Post by: singingiiiffy on Monday, January 28, 2013, 19:04:59
Whichever browser i use- firefox, chrome or IE i still get this 'browse to save' advert on every website. it picks up any key words within articles as well and pops up when you hover over them. I have re installed the browsers, looked at installed programs in control panel and unistalled it from their website but still no luck.

Can anyone help?! :hmmm:

I always remove the hard drive, connect it to another computer then run a few virus scanners against it.

You should probably burn it, just to be safe

Just think of all the money you'd have saved if you'd bought a Mac instead.

Turn it off and on again. If that doesn't work make sure it's plugged in.

Fuck off.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/apple/9355995/Apple-drops-virus-immunity-claim-for-Macs.html

That was a vulnerability in Java, not the Mac OS. If you didn't have Java installed it wouldn't have affected you.

Apple no longer maintain Java for the Mac themselves and have control back to Oracle. When details of the recent vulnerability in Java were discovered, Apple very quickly disabled Java from running on Mac's until Oracle fixed it.

What did Microsoft do?

Of course Macs aren't immune, but trying to claim they are anywhere near as bad as Windows is just crazy.

I know next to nothing about computers but had endless problems with my last 2 laptops which were windows.

My Macbook is a breath of fresh air compared to them.

That is my personal opinion and I realise there are people who hate Apple and all they stand for but my Macbook, Iphone and Ipad Mini have (so far) been problem free.

A vunerability in Java that allowed access to the OS, which Apple took 3 months to fix. Don't whitewash the facts with your blind love.

Why would it matter where the vulnerability is, it's still a vulnerability.

Not at all, Apple screwed up on that and took too long to fix it but at least when they fixed the vulnerability they cleaned up any infected Macs at the same time. Plus they have now sorted their Java strategy out; handing control back to Oracle, it's now an optional install, default security settings are very strict and blocking Java totally when there is a known major vulnerability.

Just think of all the money you'd have saved if you'd bought a Mac instead.

I never failed to be amused by the inherent, sometimes irrational, passionate debate of the merits of Mac vs PC debate. It reminds me of the deep (and ironically religious on both sides) passion of the Creationism verses Evolution debate - they're both right and both wrong.

The theory of evolution has huge flaws in it...

Decent comparison that between the Mac/PC debate and a Creationism/Evolution one.

The refusal of the passionate few on both sides of the debate to even consider the arguments of the other side always makes for an entertaining read.

Maybe then you can tell us where creationism is right and evolution is wrong?

Cambridge University have got Richard Dawkins going head to head with Rowan Williams in a debate on the 31st Jan. Should be interesting, think they're going to post the video online afterwards. Maybe they'll settle things once and for all?

Always thought Dawkins comes across a bit psycho with his anti-religion views.

And he likes to shag post-op transexuals (according to South Park).
