Halloween
Having a gander at the traditions and origins, it mentions consumption of cider, sounds ok to me

I've just finished wrapping some Brussels sprouts in quality street wrappers ready for the trick or treaters later.

Should cook the sptouts, let them cool, coat them in chocolate and then put them in the quality street wrappers.

When did penny for the guy stop? I used to remember when kids turned up with a wheelbarrow with what resembled a scarecrow.

There's some nice pics by the late Denis Bird, in the Bath Road museum, of kids doing penny for the guy.....off the top of my head, from the very late 60's, maybe even creeping into 1970.

We did penny for the guy in the early 80's. Or rather dressed someone's little brother up in big clothes and made him sit really still.
On council estates you made your own fun.

Don't get so many carol singers these days either. In calne back in the 80's it generally consisted of 4 sixteen year olds grunting a couple of lines then sticking their hands out for cash.
