Title: Jon Stead
Post by: Kinky Tom on Tuesday, June 14, 2005, 13:04:17
So Stead has joined Sunderland for £1.8 million.

By my estimation this is way over the top for someone who has scored somewhere between 25 and 30 goals in three seasons.

If he is going for this much, just because about 7 or 8 of those goals have come from 1.5 years in the Premiership, then I fail to see how SSP can possibly be worth any less than £1 million.

I fail to see how Watford can possibly think that a 3 to 400,000 pound bid, plus players that will more than likely be released by them anyway could prive him away from us.

no. Kingstonrobin is known for comparing ssp with JS and saying how much SSP should be worth etc.

He then comes out with loads of stats regarding the difference between them.

will find a post to show you

Because John Stead was bought from Huddersfield in this division after one good season for £1 million. SSP has had three good seasons with us in this division but no one seems to rate him as highly as JS or at £1million

He was bought from Huddersfield for over a mil when they were in the league below us.  Why?

Don't get me wrong, I like the guy, and think he will do well, but I think SSP could do equally well.

Stead is a great player and I mentioned his name about 6 months before anybody rwally became intersted in him. If Kingy could have done a deal then we would have been laughing.

But Stead scored 6 goals for Blackburn in the Prem in 03/04 which if he can repeat for Sunderland would represent  goood value at 300K a goal.

Their last Prem season in 02/03 Flo and Marcus Stewart  got 6 between them and cost 16 mill or something similar..

It'll be interesting to see if Sunderland can get more than their 19 point all time Prem low.

Akinbiyi V Parkin - What is Parkin worth?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Both Burnley and Sheff Utd have just agreed £600k fee for Akinbiyi.

If Akinbiyi is worth that then what is Sam worth? - I promised you all some stats ; )

Akinbiyi is now 30 - about 7 years older (Parkin is 24 in March) and has a terrible goals to game ratio!

His Career Stats are as follows:
Played 375 (Starts 316, Sub 59) Goals 114 Goals Per Game 0.30

Also his record at "Higher" level is also not impressive - in fact its worse:

Premiership with Leicester: Played 67 (Starts 57, Sub 10) Goals 13 Goals Per Game 0.19

Championship with Stoke: Played 66 (Starts 58, Sub 8) Goals 19 Goals Per Game 0.29

So Sam has netted just as many goals this year as Akinbiyi has in his total Stoke career!!!!
He has also only netted 34 fewer goals in 180 less games!!!

Sam's record:
Career: Played 195 (Starts 167, Sub 28) Goals 80 Goals Per Game 0.41
STFC: Played 126 (Starts 121, Sub 5) Goals 68 Goals Per Game 0.54
(Sam also has "Championship" Experience with Millwall - 4 in 7 which is - 0.57 GPG!!!)

So Sam is only worth £350k-£450k - I think not!!!!

He puts a lot of work into that.  I especially like the way that he is clearly typing 8, followed by a ).

This leads, of course to 8)

Oops! 8)

Have to say he tried hard there, and may have a point! But Akinbiyi can't be compred to Parkin, as SSP has never played in the Premiership.

KR is a legend.....but his stats and facts are often plain wrong......think he works in marketing so accepts a bit of leeway with reality.

agree Reg KR is a leg, but does try a bit too hard sometimes.
