Who was there for that little gem then?Huh?

Some one mentioned elsewhere that we would be helping to keep Rovers down besides helping our own cause and this game was similar.

We were already in the play offs but needed a point to guarantee third spot and better still to fuck up City who needed to win to get in the play offs. The feeling was that if City were to get in the play offs, they would beat us. Especially as we were a country mile ahead of them in the league.

Ashton Gate was absolutely packed. I reckon there was 30,000 in there. The official gate was 19,000 and a bit. Yeah right.

The Town fans (I would guess we had about 3,000 or so) were on the open terrace which is now the Atteyo Stand and it was a blazing hot day.

City went ahead early on and it was like the Alamo. It was not looking good. Town kept grinding away though and gradually got back into it. We equalized with a glorious volley from Peter Coyne half way through the second half right in front of the Town fans. Pure mentalism Cool

We were looking good for a draw until five minutes from time when we conceded a penalty. I can't remember who it was, or what it was for, or if it even was a pen at all. None of that mattered becuase Faser Digby pulled off a blinding save from Gordon Owen.

That absolutely knocked the bollocks out of the slave traders. We drew the game and the rest as they say, his history.

Happy, happy days.

So come on Town, and REMEMBER THE BOYS OF '87!!!!

That really was a great day Cool

Oh yes. I seem to remember Roger Malone getting constantly pasted by both sets of fans. Poor sod. Is he still alive?

Roger Malone. City think he is rovers and vice versa and we just gave him shit regardless...

That was indeed a great day. Sadly I didn't go as I was only 12 and only went to home games but I did go to the play off finalo replay at Palace though :-)

I've only visited Trashton once, we won 4-0 and Roger Malone got a load of stick that day too. He was interviewing Chalkie after the game and they had unwisely kept us in the ground...all you could here on the telly was "we all agree, roger malone is a wanker....a wanker"...repeat

Roger Malone  Soapy Tit Wank

Has anyone got that on video somewhere? I remember someone saying that their dad had recorded all the goals off local tv since the mid to late eighties. That needs to be put on DVD.

It was indeed a classic.....,pen was for Joe Jordan using all he learned in Italy and taking an outrageous dive.....

In typical Shithead style....several town players were attacked leaving the pitch...bunch of cunts.

I was there and there were a lot more than 3000 Town fans - you couldn't move. One of my favourite games of all time. We were already in the Play Offs - they needed to win to get in there. The missed penalty was wicked. great chants of "one Gordon Owen" from the Town fans. He then got sent off the next year when we played them in the LC.
At the end of the game the Slave Traders invaded the pitch and slapped Bambi and the Fridge. They also looked as though they were going to come straight over the fence into to us but thought better of it when the Town fans were well up for it.
Outside afterwards it was absolute bloody chaos. I know of some Town fans who had a polkice escort back to their car at 6pm.
I think we had just about every piece of shit within 20 miles of Swindon - we had a hell of a mob that day. Unfortunately, the Slave Traders had even better - absolute animals that day.
The other thing I remember is that it was bloody hot and you could spot anyone wyho had been that day as half their face was red, the other half white. Oh yes and the pubs in Old Town did a roaring trade. Even non football pubs had Town fans singing that night.

Great days Chalky -

I was in the Victoria that evening having hot footed it back from Ashton Gate and a fair few of the first team were in there early doors. i.e. Peter Coyne, Steve Berry, Colin Calderwood, Chris Kamara, Fraser Digby, Bryan Wade, Dave Hockaday,

Happy days!

I was 13, and it was the second time I was there as we played Rovers there a month earlier, winning 4-3.

All I can remember it was a hot day, and standing near the front was in direct line of fire from the Peter Coyne volley. When it went in the place erupted. One guy who stood close to me, who was only wearing tracksuit bottoms, jumped onto the fence to celebrate, and a mate of his decided to pull his tracksuit bottoms down. The female cop who passed at the time got a right eyeful !!!

It was also the only game I've left early. After they missed the pen, I left straight afterwards, knowing there was going to be trouble.

Gordon Owen then repeated his penalty miss in the Freight Rover final a few weeks later !!!
