On this seasons current form id say Vassell over Crouch in the England squad although we do need a target man in Crouch.  Wink

I quite like Crouch but I would rather have the pace and skill of Vassell.

Not true, Vassell has a very average scoring record (about one in 5 games) compared to one in 3 for Crouch. No reason he should even be close to the England squad.

Arf, come on Ben!

You can’t make comparisons between performances in the Championship and Premiership, include cup competitions and expect to make any sort of credible comparison between the two.

Vassell: 37 top flight goals in 117 Premier League starts.
Crouch: 18 top flight goals in 70 Premier League Starts.

Total Top Flight Goals-Per-Game Ratio

Vassell = 0.32
Crouch = 0.25

* Discounting sub appearances where both players have close to identical ratios.

International Caps

Vassell 22 – 6 Goals
Crouch 2 – 0 Goals

Don’t get me wrong Vassell is no great but by comparison Crouch makes him look like he’ll be doing erectile dysfunction adverts in forty years.

You only had to have seen both play in the same Villa side to have a basic comprehension of who was the better player!

As I said Vassell is certainly no great but while he may be conspicuous by his absence a lot of the time it beats being conspicuous by his presence.

What’s the deal with Crouch anyway?

He’s equivalent to Ricketts in terms of performance/stats etc and while I have said before he had a storming last season with Southampton by far the majority of his top flight his performances have been average at best.

hey dazzaa, you're spoiling a good argument by using Definite Info (aka FACTS)!

this cannot continue, to rectify this inbalance i'm going to spout some rubbish...

crouch has cost, collectively, £18million pounds, and according to the previous post he's scored 18 premiership goals - that's £1million per goal!

vassell recently signed for man city, not sure how much for but i do know that it wasn't £37million pounds, so obviously he's much better.

There is a reason Crouch has attracted transfer fees of over £15m in total so far in his career, whilst Vassell has only gone for £2m, it's because he's a better player.

I didn't include cup competitions.

Crouch got 4 times as many goals as Vassell in the premiership last year.

Anyway how can you discount sub appearances saying they're close to identical when Vassell has had 55 sub appearances in the premiership, Crouch about half that.

Ar come on Dazzza you can't expect that to be any kind of credible comparison. Wink

was it only £2million?

so, that's.... almost £54'054.05 per premiership goal!

which makes vassell... 18.5 times better!

By that measure Vassell is better than Rooney, I think not.

Vassell 117 starts 55 appearances as sub.
Crouchy 43 Starts 27 appearances as sub

Actually gives Crouch an advantage when you calculate goals per games based on starts but hey there you go.

Six times more goals than Vassell last season in the league the same figure when they just so happened to play in the same side at Villa.

Oh and Rooney’s just under a million a goal, the fat bed wetter
