Title: Interview help
Post by: LucienSanchez on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, 07:32:25
Can anyone give me, in laymans terms, any information on IIS5/6/7 and CSS load balancing? It's a long shot, but I know there are a few techy folk on here...

As far as I know IIS is just an internet page framework. It's the back end of a website basically - where the pages are stored and hosted.

Load balancing cannot be explained in laymans terms. Try here:

The purpose of CSS is to provide webmasters more control over page layout and display than HTML offers. With HTML alone, there are various coding tricks that are used to help achieve the desired page layout. The trouble with that is those tricks often don't work the same, if at all, in all browsers. CSS standards were designed so that these tricks are no longer needed, so CSS is much more predictable and reliable than resorting to those old tricks.

Using a wall of your house for a loose analogy, HTML is the studding behind the wall; and CSS is the wall covering, colors, and placement of the content on the wall. In other words, when properly used, HTML defines the structure of your web page while CSS defines the appearance.

Aside from consistent display standards, one of the greatest benefits of using CSS is if you use external style sheets, you can make one change to the style sheet and have that change take place throughout your entire web site.

Cheers chaps...

Sippo - thats cascading style sheets, and although not relevant to the load balancing (thats a Content Services Switch), it might come in handy.

I'm currently revising the best bits of W2k8 R2... joy.

from my experience, IIS is very straightforward to use and there's not that much depth to it... my main memory was having to constantly repropagate the permissions as IIS had a terrible habit of forgetting them, thus meaning the website went broked

Might be worth searching for a torrent of this book, best I could find on Cisco CSS....

Though the majority of it will probably be far too much information for what you want.

Good luck with the interview.

Did the uni thing not come into fruition, or is that a backup plan?

I have a guaranteed place at uni, this is just a final stab at employment in the IT field. Should i be unsuccessful, i imagine i'll accept my place at UWE and get down to the agencies for some temping shizzle.
