Title: What the hell is this?.... Post by: @MacPhlea on Saturday, July 20, 2013, 20:31:11 This is my first question in the 4D section... never thought I would ever have to do this but hopefully you'll understand why I have as i don't think their is an answer to it...
As some of you may be aware it's the IAT at Fairford today and as part of this the A380 was doing a fly past with the Red Arrows. The Airbus and the Red Arrows began their Formation over Lyneham and I was duly there to capture the moment with my EOS 7D, 70-200mm lens with 2 x converter. I took loads of photographs as the camera was set up on High speed (8 frames a second). A lot of the pictures were average but two in particular caught my eye not because they were special but because of what they contained... (http://everythingsolved.co.uk/images/ufo/a380_1.jpg) (http://everythingsolved.co.uk/images/ufo/a380_2.jpg) What you may have noticed is the dot moving from right to left between the two images - these images are taken less than 0.15 seconds apart so whatever it is, it's moving at speed At first I thought is must be another aircraft or bird but when cropping image it doesn't appear to be any bird or plane I recognise.... (http://everythingsolved.co.uk/images/ufo/a380_1_cropFrame.jpg) (http://everythingsolved.co.uk/images/ufo/a380_2_cropFrame.jpg) Full cropping of the object show a fish shape and it's slightly freaked me out... (http://everythingsolved.co.uk/images/ufo/a380_1_cropMax.jpg) (http://everythingsolved.co.uk/images/ufo/a380_2_cropMax.jpg) These photo's have not been manipulated in any way (aside from cropping) and I have the originals available...Any plane buffs out there with a rational explanation?! Title: Re: What the hell is this?.... Post by: Jamiesfuturewife on Saturday, July 20, 2013, 20:48:41 A bomb?
Title: Re: What the hell is this?.... Post by: Samdy Gray on Saturday, July 20, 2013, 21:00:02 What focal length were the photos taken at? Just wondering if it might be a fly or something, but if you were at a really long focal length a fly moving across the lens would be massive.
Title: Re: What the hell is this?.... Post by: Ginginho on Saturday, July 20, 2013, 21:02:41 Whatever it is, it's out of focus compared to the plane shots, so not in the same area of the sky.
I'd hazard a guess it's a bird (swallow or a swift, maybe)? Title: Re: What the hell is this?.... Post by: DiV on Saturday, July 20, 2013, 21:18:10 a fly on the camera lens?
Title: Re: What the hell is this?.... Post by: BruceChatwin on Saturday, July 20, 2013, 21:46:41 An insect.

Title: Re: What the hell is this?.... Post by: @MacPhlea on Saturday, July 20, 2013, 22:07:38 a fly on the camera lens? If that were the case it would be in the same place for both photos... Title: Re: What the hell is this?.... Post by: @MacPhlea on Saturday, July 20, 2013, 22:08:39 Whatever it is, it's out of focus compared to the plane shots, so not in the same area of the sky. That was my initial thought... Just not seen a wingless variety before.. :DI'd hazard a guess it's a bird (swallow or a swift, maybe)? Title: Re: What the hell is this?.... Post by: Gnasher on Saturday, July 20, 2013, 22:31:16 That was my initial thought... Just not seen a wingless variety before.. :D It's a bird. Could be a Skylark or a Swallow. Here's a bird with no wings: (http://www.mountainproject.com/v/106177917) http://www.mountainproject.com/v/106177917 (http://www.mountainproject.com/v/106177917) Title: Re: What the hell is this?.... Post by: Joycie on Saturday, July 20, 2013, 22:47:15 It's a turtle without a shell.
Title: Re: What the hell is this?.... Post by: Frigby Daser on Saturday, July 20, 2013, 22:56:32 Or possibly the helicopter filming this - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/aviation/10192814/Worlds-largest-jet-flies-with-Red-Arrows-at-Royal-International-Air-Tattoo.html
Although the movement across the frame wouldn't work there. I'll go bird. Title: Re: What the hell is this?.... Post by: THE FLASH on Saturday, July 20, 2013, 23:27:33 Thunderbug
Title: Re: What the hell is this?.... Post by: 4D on Sunday, July 21, 2013, 00:12:15 Your thumb?
Title: Re: What the hell is this?.... Post by: Berniman on Sunday, July 21, 2013, 00:12:45 I was gonna say helicopter. Might have been travelling in a different direction to the planes so would have seemed to be moving fast.
Title: Re: What the hell is this?.... Post by: 4D on Sunday, July 21, 2013, 01:25:51 It's obviously a fly or bug that is nearer to you than the planes.
Title: Re: What the hell is this?.... Post by: Frigby Daser on Sunday, July 21, 2013, 08:55:13 In the words of Father Ted....that one is near. The other one is faaaaaaar away.
Title: Re: What the hell is this?.... Post by: BruceChatwin on Sunday, July 21, 2013, 09:08:46 Reminds me of this where CNN and a supposed 'aviation expert' were totally stumped by what were clearly bugs flying out of focus in front of the camera:
