First post updated with links to locked threads.

First post updated with links to locked threads.

I wonder if anyone has ever read back through both trivial threads?   A veritable goldmine of bollocks. This is the problem, I can see that stuff gets lost in there, but often there might just not be enough meat in a topic to justify a new thread.

Take a couple of recent examples.... how to eat a custard slice with an equitable distribution, to avoid seepage... and the merits of Blobbyland at Cricket St Thomas.  It's important that this stuff still sees the light of day, but if you start a thread on custard slices and it only receives half a dozen replies, it could be disheartening

I'd like to think the TEF could support a custard slice thread and the Blobbyland posts were linked to an entire forum dedicated to ghost theme parks and the like.

The Trivial threads are the most used/view topics. locking them will probably demise the forum. Doubt many will start a new thread about their trivial good time/moan they have.
I all for keeping everything unlocked.

^ This. Cutting off your nose and all that. The Telly Program one was informative too.

To add my tuppence worth, I prefer the generic threads too. Some I know I'm not interested in, while others are useful sub-groups for like-minded nerds. If I've been offline for a few days, I don't have to trawl past the first page of new threads, and I agree that many people won't think their post is important enough to merit a thread of its own.

Save the generic ten! (Or however many it is.)

Time for a poll?

I'm not sure what the point of locking threads is  :hmmm: apart from people not being able to use them. Could some one explain what the desired outcome might be.

Perhaps News Monkey should be released from her cage  :)  or the Ralphy forum revived.

To dissuade people from using those threads i'd imagine. Yes it may seem ironic; locking threads on a forum but it should encourage people to start a thread which doesn't deviate too frequently. Obviously there is nothing stopping you Reg from starting a new thread with the title, Trivial things.... :pint:

I don't have the Solomonic wisdom to resolve this.... I wanted to note the passing of Bill Maynard, as I'd met the fella.  One line in the generic thread, would have sufficed, nobody much else would have been interested... Selwyn Froggitt was a long time ago

"Magic". He certainly lived life to the full.
His son finished 7th in the 1986 Eurovision. Heady days.

Agree with Reg on this, locking the generic threads will do nothing to improve the forum - possibly quite the opposite.

In spite of the 80% bollocks / 25% football tag line, this forum takes all its energy and enthusiasm from what's happening on the pitch. At the moment we are shit on the pitch and in our collective heart of hearts, even the most optimistic of us know that in all likelihood we are going to be in L2 again next season. The Club is in the doldrums at the moment and this is reflected here. We can but hope that will change in the near future and if/when it does, it will most definitely be reflected on here without the need to lock any threads.

The benefit of the generic threads are that if you have no interest in the subject you can steer clear. Other threads, for example the Telly Program thread is useful, and well used by many including the mods who suggest getting rid.

It's a good point... I don't watch telly, so don't think I've ever posted anything there.

I do miss those of you who are of a leftist persuasion getting all salty over my opinion of islam, yet ironically you'll be voting for this guy.......

Likewise, I haven't watched telly for years. I first joined the stfc group on yahoo groups which was an email thing, I think it's long gone.

When the forums started I used to look in at myonlyswindon and thisisstfc . Also the fanny forum which was funny. I'm sure there was another forum too, quiet, but with a character called Dr Zoidberg? That was good.

TEF is great, I read some things on twitter, but avoid Facebook like the plague. Keep it as it is/was, love reading some of the comments. Haven't posted much in the years I've been here, but cheers to those who do.

Haha, and assumption is the mother of all....fuck ups. It may come as a surprise but I've only voted once for Labour. In a constituency that was "Red" through mid 90s to 2010s. straddled with marginal Conservative one side and majority Conservative the other. It's swinging back towards Labour again though. It does buck the trend in my area as a lot have held Labour seats since post Thatcher. Coming from mining areas there was always going to be a "Red Revival". Once the Purple ones sat back down.

In any case my questions were not all political based. Take a look. I'd love read your responses. We're all here to learn - hopefully. Happy Easter and much zakat to you friend :)

Keep them open... much more interesting.

I can't imagine it would be that great to have a new thread every time one of you cunts has something to say..

Oh and besides, where else am I supposed to tell everyone I have a daughter who is due in the next two weeks? :D

I imagine he enjoys a very extra matured Gorgonzola. Crumbly and creamy with a more tanned colour than normal  :D

The orange colour in cheese comes from a dye acquired from the seeds of the Annatto tree, native to S and C America.

It ws original used by natives of those parts as body paint.... maybe PB rubs himself in cheese.

Indeed. Annatto is a commonly used dye in many food stuff :) I would chuckle if he did say Gorgonzola!
