any side will be happy to take on new players

the club best suited for you depends on your standard, whether you can play sat, sun or weds (twenty20) (or all).

there's loads of good clubs about

make sure you choose on with a bar, mind.

where abouts do you live? swindon?

I want to play, I've got the kit and everything. I just lack motivation to find a team.

Maybe we should start a TEF team  8)

What are the nets like there? My old school (Bradon Forest) had tacky plastic matting rather than artificial grass, which used to ruin your balls ( ).

i'd look for a smaller club yoof, no point playing for them unless you want to really test yourself, you won't really become or feel part of the club. better to find a club where your efforts (even if they are only in the bar!) are appreicated. we're playing swindon in a friendly next sat at home, with our 2nds playing their 2nds at their place.

if you are only playing for fun and not to really test yourself it'd be better to find a good village team who love to have a few guys playing sundays that keep the club bar going

my knowledge of teams in wiltshire is a bit limited so i can't really help too much

if i were you i'd find a number of teams that are in a decent proximity then go up to the ground find out if it has the two requirements for any sunday cricketer; a) fairly pictureque b) has a bar. should be plenty about

a couple of village side i can think of (although i don't think any have bars) are a) cricklade - no bar but two sat teams and a sun team i think, b) barnsley beeches - always have a sat and sun team, c) ampney crucis - only a sunday team now with the crown of crucis pub right next door though

might be worth contacting someone from these clubs and having a chat

can't help on sides closer to swindon though

dave might know some though - what's his lot? spye park isn't it?

Never been a big cricket player....but my best mate was really into it.....so I've played a bit....I can bowl decentlyish....although you generally get 2 good balls and 4 bad ones in an over.....can play defence with the bat but far to re-active to the ball than pro-active.

If people were serious about just going on some field for a knock about I'd do it....my mate would two and he's got loads of cricket shit

Yep agreed. I used to play for Swindon when i was a kid and they are a bunch of tossers. You're best getting XI together for a friendly against a village team. There are plenty about looking for friendlies. I play for Nationwide on saturdays and we have a casuals team who are made up of not regular cricketers who play on wednesdays nights and they are looking for teams too.

Although i would advise a practise first. If anyone gets a pitch or nets booked i'll come along.

Ridgeway school, Croft sports centre and Swindon CC all have nets, if we have a couple of knockabouts in the nets then see who is up for playing for a team and take it from there?

I suppose we can play Saturdays actually seeing as the footy season is over.

Think I'll have to get some pads. Don't fancy facing you lot in the nets without them.

It was ok when I was 13-14 just pissing about with my mates in the nets, plus we used to use those stupid 'slaz' balls.

Have to dig out the rest of my kit, I've got a Gray-Nicholls bat somewhere and a pair of gloves. Oh, and a box as well - very important that.

I have grown up playing for Goatacre.
The first team is a pretty decent standard (about the same as Swindon) but if you move down into the 3rds and the Sunday/Wednesday sides you can have a good laugh and there's a proper village feel (ie cricket then beer is the only acceptable Saturday afternoon!)

Anyone know of any schools/somewhere else with an actual cricket pitch we might be able to borrow on a Sunday afternoon?

Why don't we make it a Saturday? seeing as the Footy season is nearly over.

We could actually have a TEF XI 8)

25% football, 80% bollocks, 0.1% cricket

Ridgeway school, Croft sports centre and Swindon CC all have nets, if we have a couple of knockabouts in the nets then see who is up for playing for a team and take it from there?

I suppose we can play Saturdays actually seeing as the footy season is over.

I play cricket Saturdays in the summer. Maybe a sunday afternoon would be better? Maybe easier to get somewhere to play then as well?

who do ya play for GuaS?

I play for Nationwide. We have just recently moved out the Wilts league in to some South West of England leauge. Its 2 divisions where all the 1st teams play in one league and all the 2nd teams play in the other leauge and the fixtures mirror each other. Should be interesting! Do you play?

yeah you're in west of england premier wiltshire division, with all the wiltshire leagues below and glos/wilts divison, wepl 2 and west of england premier above

do you play 1 or 2s?

i play for cirencester in gloucestershire division 1

I played mainly 1s last year. I think I will be in the 2's this year, im not quite ready for the 1s yet. Looking forward to the season now. Although im missing our first game so that I can watch the Walsall match of course

Here's an old skool posting of mine about a TEF cricket XI .....more or less holds true, but might need a bit of tinkering  2 years down ther line apologies to Ralphy.

A forum cricket team has to be a better idea.....Boeta can be captain, Johno can chuck pies, DMR is a useful all rounder and R4E can do the fielding.

Has the advantage of being a long game given ample opportunity for consumption of substances in interesting forgotten corners of Wiltshire.

Bird can do the teas Wink

SY could umpire although standing for a couple of hours at a time may be problematic.

Dazzza I'd see as the fella who turns up at the pub post match with a couple of fitties, just to show a bit of willing and would turn out if completely necessary.

OF has to be useful as an ex public schoolboy.....can purvey leg break and Chinaman being left handed but doesn't go on about it.

Yeovil I see as scorer......

Asher certainly wont be involved and can't see Dex on a cricket pitch....Marie I suspect is very good, and could if persuaded keep wicket and bat at 8.

Whits.....would act as fixture secretary and treasurer turning out reluctantly......Magic Roundabout will sign up for the tour to Amsterdam, as its a favourite destination for club sides.

Ralphy and Sadie will find a quiet corner to watch and roll about in the grass.

Simon Pieman wont be around as its in the hols.

Jan Aage.....may be a player but wont admit to it as cricket is an English game.

Blinkpip will bat three, and shock everyone with his mature cover drive.

Piemonte....will expect to bowl first change but throw a wobbler when Boeta decides the pitch is taking spin and brings on OF.

Ben Wah Balls will just wonder why Kingy hasn't been picked, but take a fifer and score 50.

OJ will be unavailable due to a near death experience brought on by septicemia through an infected toe.

OST will be OST.

Spacey having turned out for Ciren will prove to be a hostile pace bowler, if a little erratic....Mrs Spacey will have to do teas as Bird will be behind the pavilion with Blackcurrant neglecting her responsibilities.

Right, the plan is for a Sunday afternoon get together ar Lydiard Park. DV can get hold of a lot of equipment but if people have their own then that's great.

Don't know a date yet, do people want to wait until footie season is over?

the actual football season doesnt bother me, but obviously our sunday league season is still going on.....we've got two games left...tomorrow and the 29th.....

If Sunday isnt brilliant a Saturday after the footy season would be easy enough
