I think that some of the Ian Brown solo stuff is just as good as the Stone Roses.

Lyrically there are few better. Musically, not so much. How fucking good is this verse though? Absolutely magical. Are we etched in stone or just scratched in the sand, Waiting for the waves to come and reclaim the land? Will the sunshine all sweetness and light Burn us to a cinder, our third stone satellite?

I thought his first album was very good.
Saw Ian Brown at the O2 academy in Bristol in the early 2000s. Brilliant gig. The guitarist (Aziz Ibrahim?) sticks in my mind as playing some really good stuff.

F.E.A.R is a cracking track. Oh and Aud, RE: kitten name. I know I never make much sense to you but if you have DJ...since this is a black cat could you not go for Blackmarket or Shadow. As in DJ Blackmarket or DJ Shadow. Thinking of it, isn't DJ Shadow Paul Davis? PaulD...care to explain yourself?!

Ive worked with the roses a couple of times. I saw them in 89 (I think) at the bierkeller in Brizzole. I loved them. So many years later I was working artist liaison at the main stage at the V festival when they headlined. Because I was working the show I had the special wristband to watch from side stage. 18 year old me was massively excited. Fuck me that was a mistake. Brown surrounded by 3 monitors in front of him and 3 monitors behind and still could not hold a tune. Band was brilliant but all you could hear on stage was Browns drone. The rest of the band was on in ear monitors so the only monitors pumping out were browns strangulaed caterwaulings.

Ha, nuts isn't it?! To think sometimes we think we sound rubbish singing in the shower (625 times out of 100 we do). Were these three in front all pretty much directly in front of him or spread out across the stage? Still, considering the rest were in-ear. Six monitors of pure Brown (no pun)... eek

I love Stone Roses and Ian Brown's solo stuff and I never saw the Roses live but did see Ian Brown in Luxembourg some years ago - Thanks google, January 2010. https://www.atelier.lu/shows/ian-brown/Bloody awful. Not just the fact he can't sing in tune, but he fucked up the start of a number of songs, I can't remember which one but there was one song he restarted 3 times. A lot of the crowd seemed to lap this up but it irritated me Victor Meldrew style!!
