They must have heard he is in advanced talks with their rivals down the A420 about becoming their new manager!!

And if that's right, I'll not be going to the CG until he is sacked!

Manager Patterson axed by Oxford
Darren Patterson
Patterson had been under pressure from disgruntled Oxford fans

Blue Square Premier club Oxford United have sacked manager Darren Patterson.

Former U's manager Jim Smith, now a club director, has been installed as caretaker boss and will take charge for Thursday's match against Mansfield.

Oxford chairman Kelvin Thomas said: "Darren is a very honest, hardworking young manager who has given everything he had to the role.

"However, we feel that a change of manager and a change of direction is needed at this time."

Patterson, 39, joined the coaching staff at the Kassam Stadium in 2002 and became manager just over a year ago.

Results this season have been disappointing and Oxford are currently 16th in the table.

Patterson's last game at the helm was a 2-0 defeat against 10-man Torquay in the FA Cup first round on Saturday.

They seem to think Steve Coterill is an option when he's made it perfectly plain he doesn't want to go back below the Championship. At least with our random speculations they haven't ruled it out.

Don't think they have the money to appoint a reasonable name... If they're sensible they'll appoint someone who's been there and done that at Conference level.

Agent Paterson you can leave with your head held high, you have done a sterling job, unfortunelty you failed on the last part of the plan...to get them relegated again.

We need a new agent in there, we can't have field marshall smith getting anywhere close to a winning run.

On some of their forums they are suggesting that Cotterill will get the job  ::) :D

Title: Re: Oxford sack their manager

"A host of Blue Square Premier managers are thought to be interested, including Mark Cooper (Kettering), Liam Daish (Ebbsfleet), Mark Yates (Kidderminster), Jim Harvey (Forest Green) and Billy McEwan (Mansfield).

Former Cheltenham boss Steve Cotterill is understood to be interested, as well as others from below Oxford’s level, such as Dover boss Andy Hessenthaler and Elliott, who is assistant at Unibond Premier side Hednesford Town. "

It won't be Cooper as he has a release fee which we can't afford. Forest Green and Mansfield are below us in the table so its unlikely to be their two. I doubt it would be Elliott as a manager as he doesn't have any experience at this level and we want instant results not experimentation or transition. I'd love to see Matty as assistant. Hessenthaler would be my shout. So when I said "there are a few good candidates about for us" that was optimistic bullshit. I'm still hoping for a good appointment though, there seems to be lots of choice.

Where's that from? Cotterill has repeatedly ruled himself out of League One Jobs let alone non League ones.

Not with Victor Chandler is it? The only time you can really really rule a candidate as definitely out is when VC price him down to 3-1 fav then refuse to take any more money on him

As the article says, the man at the top of our list is wanted by other clubs (you?) so may take a post higher up the leagues. We probably won't get the number one target but here's hoping.

Cotterill surely won't drop down?

come to think of it, if its cotterill the article is talking about (it sounds as though it almost certainly is), then he must have applied for the job, so is interested.

...But Cotterill told the Oxford Mail: “I haven’t applied for the Oxford job and I hadn’t applied for the Swindon job either.”

He clearly wants to manage at a higher level, after success at Turf Moor.

“I spent four years – the longest spell I have had in management – at Burnley, and I left there, it wasn’t that they sacked me.,” he added.

“With my record, I don’t see any reason why my next management job shouldn’t again be at a Championship club.”
