Title: Two new signings....
Post by: Dazzza on Tuesday, May 10, 2005, 22:51:56
Word on the messageboard street is that we may have signed two new players from a Premiership club.

Apparently on the radio, details as yet unknown.

Anyone hear it?

I didn't hear it but my Dad told me when he got in and I don't think he uses the forums, so I presume he heard it on the radio.

Possibly that lad from Bolton?

Young Tails seems to think it's from the same club.

Ricky Shakes may be a good bet he looks to have the best track record over those that have been on trial so far.

If were talking Bolton then possibly the other player is young Charlie Comyn-Platt a big defender who has made a handfull of first team appearences and can play at left back.

Fits the King profile and could well be Heywood's replacement.

We can't sign that bloke he's got a shit name. What sort of chant can you make with Charlie Comyn-Platt?

My Dad mentioned they'd both been out on loan this season as well.

Wycome and Bury.

Shakey did well at Bury and got a couple of goals while Platt didn't seem to fit the bill by all accounts.  Adams was quoted as saying it was a year to early for him.

You know what? That is absolutely right.  It's actually better than the season itself because you can pretend all the players you've signed are brilliant and won't have been flogged off to some non-league side in 12 months!

There's a bit of land between Purton and West Swindon known as Common Platt....probably had houses built on it now mind......not to be confused with Rushy Platt , which has also had houses built on it.

I knew you'd like that one.  Did you notice on Saturday the way those brainiacs in the T.E.  changed the du du du du Andy Caton, to du du du du Ashan Holgate, when Kingy swapped to two over.  They must have been impressed with that one.

It was ment to be a kind of ironic statement, matching the can't be arsed effort on the pitch.

That or we just ran out of ideas.

An ironic statement from the Town End?  Really??  Who'd have thought.

It's time for a change, it's time for the Arkells!!

Fed up of watching half a match, I'd rather sit near the halfway line, where at least any abuse/positive feedback I shout out has a chance of being heard by King and the directors.  Can't wait.

Anyone know what sort of deals they will sign on?

Free transfers?
Season long loans?
3 months loan? (doubt it as it would be pointless)

Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Wednesday, May 11, 2005, 14:13:30
free transfers i think pie. but one may be on a season long loan. theres a link to the story of the adver site on one of the other threads

I've read that story, but its unclear to me.

it is a bit but it just hints that the players are from Bolton or Sunderland and that they have agreed to join through their agents but the deal isnt "concrete" it would seem like we are talking free transfers here because its too early for managers to decide who they want to let go out on loan whereas released players are already talking to clubs.

p.s. has anyone heard about bristol city trying to sign marcus stewart? never in a million years!

I should work at the Adver after reading today's stories and my posts last night!

Adver would indicate it’s Bolton and possibly both players I have mentioned who have been on loan at Wycombe and Bury respectively.

Confirmed, from today's Adver...

Quote

BOLTON Wanderers’ Ricky Shakes has confirmed he is in talks with Swindon Town and Reebok Stadium colleague Charlie Comyn-Platt could join him at the County Ground.

The 20-year-old impressed during a reserve game for Town earlier this week and a deal looks likely to be completed once manager Andy King returns from holiday.

Shakes can play up front, but has converted to an attacking wide role.

First team opportunities have been limited for Shakes and he has made only one start in the last four years.

Central defender Comyn-Platt, 19, had a spell on loan at Wycombe Wanderers last season.

He is a product of the Bolton youth system.

However, it looks like King will have to see off competition in order to clinch the deal for Shakes.

The Londoner impressed Bury boss Graham Barrow during a loan spell last year, netting twice, although the Gigg Lane manager accepts that Town are favourites to complete a deal.

He said: “Swindon are also interested in him now and he’s from London so he may want to move closer to home.”

Reserve team boss Alan Reeves confirmed after Monday’s second string win at Swansea that the club would be taking another look at the player in pre-season.

The youngster is heading off on holiday shortly and will join a Trinidad and Tobago training camp as part of his break.

A source close to Bolton Wanderers said: “Ricky hasn’t had too many opportunities at the club but he has greatly impressed Graham Barrow during his time with Bury.

“He is rated very highly.”
