The new Wilko, anyone?

Cut our losses and forget his central contract when this one expires.

Sad news but at least we know now,and won't go into the Ashes wondering if he's going to make it or not.

His captaincy will be the thing we miss the most.  His unusual field placings and choice of bowlers is second to none! and his batting is ok.........alright exceptional

his batting is awful get it right! i dont think he ever scored more than 10 runs an innings on average since he started captaining the team

you're both wrong, rich saying he's shit is so far of the mark you're embarassing youself, however, despite what esso says he's far from technically perfect, his trigger movement gets his head to far across and thus often plays outside the line- look how mcgrath kept on bowling him last summer when it was nipping back, and he generally plays too much off the back foot

didn't nasser's average drop rapidly when he took on the captaincy?

tenner says the same happens to freddie

Part of the problem with Vaughan's average is that he had that fantastic time with the bat when we last played down under, lest we forget he was Man of that series.Everyone assumed it meant he was a brilliant player, but maybe that year was a one off, maybe he's not such a good batsman?

As Skipper he is fantastic though, and we are going to miss him hugely,as we seem to have done since he got injured :( [although other injuries to key players hasn't helped either].

thats true, he did go through a ''purple'' patch playing India at home and then Down Under that propelled his average up a couple of years back.
But the recent down turn in form since doesnt change the fact that he is a top class batsmen, i'd have him in the team ahead of a Bell/Cook

also against sri lanka in the same summer as the india series. He also had a good world cup 2003 in South Africa. Scored a couple of 50's against the dutch and Pakistan on slow wickets.
