Pricing it up, for tickets + hotel it's about £150 for Manchester and the Oasis gig or £200 for London and a West End show.

google the electric cinema. you can do portabello market in the afternoon, (reasonable) thai curry round the corner then electric cinema in the evening (wine bottle at your leather chair, with a fridge in the arm of the chair). Great day.

The stretch of M5 between Bristol and Exeter is my favourite run of tarmac, anywhere.

That's good, but I don't think you'll ever top the stretch of M6/M74 through Cumbria and the Scottish Borders.  Probably the most scenic and the most over-engineered road in the UK (although I'm sure leefer will correct me if he thinks I'm wide of the mark).  150+ miles of automotive heaven.

(I'm not suggested Sam takes his good lady to Glasgow, by the way.)
