Andy Hessenthaler put a bendy straw in Sonics ear and by all accounts, it bloody hurt.
We've not got on ever since really.

It's clearly a local rivalry, Gillingham appears to be a lot further away than it actually is because London is in the way but if you're coming from Gillingham London isn't in the way so it's only 20 miles meaning we are there closest rivals.

You'll find that most Gills fans would sooner get the bus to Charlton.

Fatbury - it doesn't have anything to do with the playoffs...
It goes MUCH further back than that....
It all kicked off in '79 (i think) when there was trouble with the players at the County Ground. Ray McHale was involved for us - ended up with 2 Gills players in court on the Monday following the game !!
The playoffs were just another excuse for them to get beaten again by us !!

http://www.gillingham-mad.co.uk/news/loadfeat.asp?CID=EDW3A couple of interesting articles on the Gillingham mad website. Boils down to defeats, having fences erected at priestfield and having players arrested on assault charges.
