Title: Average age of our starting eleven
Post by: sonicyouth on Sunday, October 2, 2005, 13:21:40
...yesterday was 21 and a half. Our oldest player other than Thorpe was Fallon at 23.

With Jerel in the team at Donny, the average couldn't have been much higher and it's hardly surprising we're struggling with a team of such inexperienced players.

Iffy's clearly identified the lack of experienced players as a problem and is looking to bring in one or two experienced pro's, exactly the sort of thing we need right now - especially whilst Reeves, Jenkins, and Miglioranzi remain injured and Thorpe, Cureton and Whalley aren't performing.

Worrying times indeed...

We're a young inexperienced side really.

Only Whalley, Thorpe, Cureton, Jenkins and Migz are experienced.

I didn't say it was but you can't expect these players to last until the end of the season - which will be the crunch time - if they've had to play 40+ games in their first season at such a young age.

Experience is also very important in a relegation battle.

yeh, with such a young squad it will be harder to pull ourselves out of this problem. hopefull when Jenkins and whalley get back they might change things around....somehow.

Onoura looking for experience players....my money is on a return for George Ndah.

Another striker (an injury prone one at that). Just what we need.

i know, not the best news...but its probably the easiest target for iffy to bring in. He'd probably be btter than curo and thorpe though! who wouldn't?  :soapy tit wank:

We need a strong central midfielder and an experienced goalscoring striker.

I rate Heaton but I wonder whether an experienced goalkeeper might make a difference as well.

Fuck it, we need a whole new team.

There is - experience is not an invaluable ingredient, but certainly helps.  I really don't think we need better strikers - I've yet to see Thorpe or Cureton have a real goalscoring chance in the league.  When they played against inferior defences i.e.: Crawley they looked bright and productive.

If we can get a quality, fit midfielder in (Miglioranzi fits this bill, but keeping him fit seems to be proving impossible) and a decent centre back to replace that donkey Collins (who I blame for goal no. 2 yesterday) I think we will tank up the league.  Then once competeting for the playoffs, experience will be important.   :D

Cant Cureton and Thorpe maybe create their own chances?

Thorpe has had a few chances, but always wanted too many touches.

Again, Roberts hasnt started a league game this season and is out scoring them both put together.

Thorpedo and Curo are both box players, not really up to creating chances.  If we want a superhero who can score, create chances, have the right attitute, run his fucking heart out for the team, has a decent touch, can head the ball and defend, we need to put a bid in for Parkin... or teach Fallon how to create chances  :D

Roberts is too hit-and-miss for a relegation side - he's a luxury player in the guise of David Ginola...

Roberts is too hit and miss, I agree.

Which is still an improvement on Cureton and Thorpes miss and no hit.

They havent done the business, Roberts has hardly done the business but he has hardly played.

Its his time to have a shot along side Fallon

that would be quality if ndah came back. stick him up front with fallon & we'll be laughing.

better yet, bring back philippe cuervo!  8)  he was here when iffy was playing (shame he's retired now though)

... agree with the rest of you that roberts should be given a start on saturday. he must be well pissed off having to sit on the bench week-in, week-out watching thorpe & cureton being crap.
