Title: Broken fridge freezer - repair or replace
Post by: Bogus Dave on Thursday, October 4, 2018, 18:07:24
Hi

My fridge freezer has stopped working - was making a loud buzzing noise for a bout a week, and now has started to defrost. Looking online I expect it’s one of the fans at the back, as it is still making the ‘idle humming noise’ it would previously make.

Never had any experience with fridge freezer repairs before - what sort of cost am I looking at for someone to diagnose/repair? Weighing up if it’s woerh going down that route or buying a replacement (c.£300)

These sort of appliances have built in obsolescence. Get a new one.

Both points have already crossed my mind. Wary of rising premiums if claim on house insurance

Yeah the insurance co will shred you for years. Once something at the back goes its normally a sign its not going to be repairable for much less than a new one. See if you can get someone that takes away the old one on delivery, as they are a bitch to get rid of, if they possibly have cfc coolant. Our tip was very wary about the last one I took down.
