I've never had a speeding ticket in over 20 years of driving but, last weekend, I was clocked doing 80 mph by a policeman holding a speed gun while standing in a layby on the A419 just north of Swindon. At least, my speedo said 80 mph...so maybe I was travelling a little more slowly than this.
What are my odds? I'm usually quite a cautious driver but can't deny I was probably going too fast on this occasion. Am I finally going to get a speeding ticket, or will the policeman have had bigger (faster) fish to fry than me?

What are my odds? You mean you haven't received a ticket? You'll probably be ok. The allowance is generally 10% + 2mph.

They have to issue the fixed penalty notice within two weeks (14 days). So if you haven't received it by then I wouldn't worry. My betting is that you have got away with it.

I believe they have to serve notice of prosecution within 14 days of the offence.

Mothers on facebook moaning about the cost of stuff for their kids or benefits being cut. If you can't afford it, don't have loads of kids.

That's the speed they can do you for. I was aon a speed awareness caught and some bell end started banging on about 'I shouldn't be here, as I was only doing 35'. He was wrong. I'd be surprised if you'd get done doing 80 on a dual carriageway or motorway though. Bigger fish to fry.
