I may be looking to get a second car, a small, economical but zippy one.

I want to spend under two grand, and I have seen a Seat Ibiza FR TDI that looks promising.

Anyone have any experiences with these?

Thanks, as always

Always worth looking on owners site for the good the bad and the ugly.

I understand that Swindon motor park would be the place to go for a seat Ibiza.  Cheesy

Good cars the TDI FR's but not the most economical. 139g/km and you will probably get 40/45mpg which isnt back, but you can do better, unfortunatly with older cars economical and zippy are dont go hand in hand im afraid.

My main car is an ST, even my type R had better mpg Smiley

So, 40/45 mpg sounds frugal

The diesel VRS's are bloody brilliant, but you might be hard pushed to find one that isn't about to die for under 2 grand. I love me a sports diesel and would snap one of those up in a shot.

The normal Skoda Fabia in petrol is pretty economical too. My mate has a 1.2 (and a lead foot- the poor rev limiter in that car...), and has never got worse than 45mpg out of it. Anything built by Skoda in the last 12 years is pretty solid as it's all VW underneath, and cheap because it's got a Skoda badge on it.

If you're only getting that sort of mileage may as well get a small petrol engine, it'll be cheaper overall.

So will be looking for the same in about 6 months or so once child number 2 arrives and the mrs is back to work what are the best cars to look at that are cheap on tax and insurance, it will only be used for the mrs to go to work and back really and will probably looked to spend something like £2.5k ?

I dont know much about cars other than how to put in oil, water etc so would it be best to stick to the larger garages aorund the town to ensure I'm not sold a dud ?
