We'd stand a better chance of retaining him next season as a player in the championship than div1 that's for sure. If we don't go up and he won't sign an extended contract then we invoke our option. If he wants out then he'll have to put in a request, either way we'll get something for him.

Personally I'd love to see him stay. Maybe little old rural, lowley Swindon Town could be the stepping stone and stability he needs to relaunch his career?

We're a bit of a joke club really, aren't we? An overall positive season has been overshadowed by boardroom confusion and pretty much everything Nile Ranger ever does.

I supported Ranger's signing initially because I truly believed that someone giving him a chance might have helped him.
But that's obviously not been the case.

Cooper (and to be fair, Power since 'taking over') and the vast majority of the players conduct themselves well, I think. Fitton and Wray worked hard to fix our reputation in the game. Maybe I'm being harsh and other clubs are no better, but I wonder how the club is perceived by the wider football community?

I think people overplay the whole 'laughing stock' thing.

While quite a few fans of other clubs have something to say about Ranger, comments toward the club itself are very limited. When it comes to boardroom shennanigans I don't think that most are even aware. Even on the forum for that lot down the A420 there's a single thread on Ranger with a whopping 8 posts. That's it!

Some of us might think we're seen as a joke by others, the reality is more likely that nobody gives a toss!

I think FH is right, we ourselves worry about the negative image portrayed on the club but in the main (I would guess 95%+ of supporters of other clubs) do not have a clue about the shenanigans going on at the club.

I regularly speak to Shitty, Rovers and Yeovil fans and none of them genuinely care at all about our club and always seem surprised when I tell them whats happening to us with ownership/players fighting/Ranger etc etc.

That does seem to be mirrored on other clubs forums too with few having any idea or care about us.

I think (hope?) this is probably right, but what about within the game?

The only people other than us that really matter are suppliers, council and the like. That mostly comes down to whether we pay our bills on time doesn't it?

When I was a young 19 year old, I had a bit too much liquor one night and also got arrested for criminal damage. I pleaded guilty though because they sort of had me bang to rights. I was found laying in a bush by the old bill with a car aerial and a headlamp off a Citroen CV6.
If I'd pleaded not guilty, I dread to think what sentence I'd got.

My door got kicked in a few years ago by some chav. I saw him do it, my parents saw him do it and we had witness accounts from about 4 neighbours who all came out to see what the noise was and restrained him and the bloke got away with it because he was so drunk he couldnt remember.

I guess your intregrity could be doubted though, witness collusion etc. Obviously that wasnt the case, but you know what I mean. Whereas CCTV is 'independant' and has no axe to grind...

I am glad our club gave him a chance, and stuck with him for longer than most people would.  Football really does have the capacity - at every level from community to elite - to work positively with people who either find themselves or put themselves on the edges of society, and a lot more of that goes on than maybe is realised (cf Luke McCormick's sojourn with us).  At this level, however, it can also be a very cruel industry, and the recent focus on mental illness and depression in the Advertiser and elsewhere was a timely and well-received reminder of that.

It is sad that NR was not able to respond to what was offered to him here.  It is also sad that the outcome for him could either be the loss of a great talent from football, or that another club does sign him up and then abandons him off the pitch to whatever fate he creates for himself.  Yes, of course he has responsibility for his own behaviour, but football authorities also have heavy responsibility for care and guidance for very young men who find themselves thrust into a world of money and glamour for which they are ill-prepared.

But as we know, a lot of club owners are not that bothered provided they get their cut.

I too am glad that we gave Nile a chance, he was a brilliant player on the pitch and won us quite a few points on his own.

Without him we could well have been in the relegation scrap IMO, he brought a lot of skill to the pitch setting up goals as well as scoring a few like the winner vs Shitty.

Theres no doubt we will miss him on the pitch but you have to draw the line somewhere, and heaven knows we gave him enough chances to redeem himself off it.

Usually they don't bother prosecuting people up to 50 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath. Technically they should offer a blood and/or urine test if they wish to proceed as this will be more accurate, as this level is within a margin of error for the breathalyser.

If you sleep in your car when pissed you will be drunk in charge of a vehicle, even if you never had intended to drive. It's the one law where you are assumed guilty before innocent. I guess you could argue he did not intend to drive as the car was not driveable and he was waiting for a recovery truck.
