Bloke's done work for me before too. Either don't take the job on or at least phone if you're gonna be late.
Wait until they turn up then tell them you've got someone else to do the job, at least then you've got the satisfaction of wasting some of their time. (That is of course providing you can get someone else to do the job).

Sat in my car for a few mins as I took a phone call today, near a busy road in Swindon. I had a clear view of the road( Great Western way) and noted approximately 1 in 10 driver's on their phone as they passed me. Some head down to their lap, some phone to their ear, others phone in hand talking on speaker. The law isn't working.

My eldest kid picked that up ages ago, I don't know where from, but in some fucking annoying american-ish accent, so ends up sounding like 'Waih, whaaa' and it grinds my fucking gears each bloody time...

The law is rarely around to catch the idiots. Make it a £10,000 fine, car and phone crushed and they might just "get" it.

My three year old says “What?” a lot, I always correct him and say “Don’t say what, say pardon” I asked him the other day “What would you like for tea?” His reply was “don’t say what, say pardon” Touché 😄

Interestingly, or not, a very long time ago, when I was at school, I was taught by my English teacher that "what" is the correct term, rather than "pardon". It all depends on whether you are Upper Class "U" or not Upper Class "Non-U" apparently, according to Nancy Mitford: https://www.chronicle.com/blogs/linguafranca/2012/02/09/the-looking-glass-vs-mirror-war-language-and-class/Basically, it seems your 3-year old is posh and you're an oik....

That's quite an interesting article, from the (fairly limited) list of usages, it seems the upper classes in the 50s were more direct in their language, whereas the commoners more inclined to euphemism. Which is kind of the opposite of what you might expect. Or what one might expect, I suppose

This will only make sense to those watching the Apprentice, but there is one candidate that insists on permanently having his jacket around his shoulders, rather than wearing the bloody thing.
Its kind of like a cape.
