billy paynter is over due a goal and he's against his former club.

So he'll probably score ours....in  a 3-1 defeat mind...

I think he may actually be playing with Cox up front, 3 accross the middle with Mohammed as a free roaming attacking midfielder behind the front 2, quite attacking possibly but certainly no one who even resembles a winger.

Might be because of the conditions, actually run at teams through the middle rather than playing the long ball down to the wingers and getting crosses in...but then we dont have a target man playing either.

WTF? Is JPM injured? I'd actually rather have Arrietta up top than Mohammed, but maybe he thinks pace can damage them.

Oh, wait, maybe Mo is playing on the wing.

Hadwin thinks Cox and Sturrock up front, Pook and Easton in the middle with Kaid and Allen out wide.

McGovern, Paynter, Comminges, Scott (yoof GK), Almeida on the bench.

I read earlier that Ibon is on trial in Spain somewhere perhaps not available?  Does look lightweight up front though, and no JPM? not happy with that, we'll see, but pessimism has turned into an acceptance of the inevitable, and to cap it all my housemate has put on a christmas CD whilst she deocrates the tree, and I'm trying to do my essay!

Kaid and Allen wide men....I just cant see it, Allen got some good crosses in last week but looked badly out of position, Kaid Mohammed I dont think is much of a winger too, I think the team sounds a bit narrow and cant see us usuing wingers today.

Can't help but think at times Williams & Byrne are treating their games in charge like a job interview by making choices so they can say 'look at us we will make big decisions honest guv'. I just think both are way out of their depth and pray they don't spend too long in charge if Fitton does take over.

i don't think either of them want the job.

byrne said on the radio after tuesday's game that changes would be made, i presume he's making the only ones he can....in fairness i think mcgovern is total dogshit, surprised at sturrock starting in favour of paynter but he's been awful recently.

Title: The possible last matchday thread
Post by: glos_robin on Saturday, December 8, 2007, 14:34:33
How the fuck is Sturrock back in the starting line-up when Paynter would obviously be up for it against an old club. Byrne & Williams are trying to make a statement that there is no room for sentiment at the detriment to the team, they really had better not get the job permanently

edit: maybe your right Sonic, but I swear last weekend they said they'd take it if it was offered which sounds to me like they want it...

i think they'll line up like this

Brez

Smith
Blackburn
Aljofree
Nicholas

Cox
Allen
Pook
Easton
Mohammad

Sturrock

very defensive and 4-5-1ish with Cox and Mohammad pushing on if they can.

From The BBC :

Goal by Simon Cox (Swindon) right-footed (bottom-right of goal) from right side of penalty area (12 yards).Southend 0-1 Swindon. Assist (pass) by Andrew Nicholas (Swindon) from left channel.

At least it better than the Brunel commmentary....

You just gotta dig the beeb's background music when announcing league scores:

"Turning Japanes"

My misses never beleived me when I told her what the song was about, until I sang the lyrics to her.

Its funny, with all this stuff going on with the takeover, I really couldn't give a hoot about the score today.

It feels very odd and I've never felt this way about Swindon before.

I'd be quite happy to get tonkd 4-0 in the next 5 games, providing the takeover went through, and we were in safe hands.

That said, it'd be gravy if we won today. Fair play to the players for putting it in considering.

Fuckit. Good effort considering, still not sure about the team selection, but I guess there are no guarantees any other selection would have done better.

Yes we need a proper manager in, we also need the injuries and suspension back ASAP. Yes we have a big squad, but not enough strength in depth to cope with our current predicament (I'm not sure many league 1 teams do).

Yes and who in their right mind would join a club on the brink of collapse? It's not like we would apply for a job with a company on the verge of going bust is it?

Added to that we cannot afford a manager. We already have too little funds to even continue trading. So no manager until/unless Fitton takes over sadly.

the long-term future and survival of this football club is by far and away the most important thing. everything else is an irrelevence. the players, the management, the coaching staff, the kitman - who gives a fuck if they're any good or not? it means nothing if we've got days or weeks left.

Exactly, we could be 10 points clear at the top, or 10 adrift at the bottom of the league . We could have the best, or worst manager and or playing staff ever but that is all irrelevant right now.

The only thing that matters is Mr. Fritton, and wether or not he can sort out the pathetic excuse of a board that we have right now.

It's black and White really!!!

just got back. fucking accident on A127 stuck there for an hour and a half cunts.

well we played 4-1-4-1

with allen in front of the back four and cox wide right and mohammed wide left.
blackburn is clueless im afraid, very much off the pace and the southend strikers tore him and alojfree all over the park.
mohammed ran a lot but to be honest with you, he did not play one final ball.

allen played ok. we played some good football for long spells but southend always looked dangerous. paynter was totally ineffectual when he came on.

there centre half got a shit load of abuse from us as he stuck the Vs and did wanker signs at us. he was reported to the police by about 50 town fans. he is called clarke and he is a grade A twat.

about 400/500 town fans made the journey, and we  made a fair bit of noise including a rousing "we are fittons red and white army."

I think that's harsh on Blackburn and Aljofree, Nicholas was the weak link in defence today leaving his man in too much space.

The team selection was, errmmm, intersting! But fair play they all played with passion and desire and to be honest it was gutting to see the winner go in knowing the players had given everything. Took a while for the Town fans to get going but we did make a fair bit of noise in the second half...all 373 of us

Some great stories from the day including the waiter in Wetherspoons who got aresy with us after giving us too many breakfasts, a spontaneous random hat search which involved herthab buying some bloke's hat for £20 then throwing it in a puddle, and an inflatable Santa saving Whits' face from a wayward Southend shot!!!

Oh, and as for number 5, Clarke, what an absolute wanker. So nice of him to run away as he was making those obscene gestures towards us. How he got away with it I will never know - righ tin front of the linesman both times aswell

I think reporting players for that  sort of thing stinks.

I don't agree with being really picky about this stuff...but the fact that he wound people up to the extent that one guy ran onto the pitch after him kinda shows how much of a twat he was

Unfortunately the coppers caught him

We lacked cohesion, understandable given the patched up team, but the players showed some guts today, battled hard and deserved their point. Harsh on them I thought. Allen stood out for me in the first half, good energy and passed well. Second half they looked increasingly dangerous, we had our moments, but looked happy with the draw. Almost worked too. Cruel, cruel game  :?

There no.5 was a right tosser, of which we regularly reminded him (he was in the Gurney mould, which will tell you all you need to know). Seemed to put him right off which was pleasing, but he properly milked it at the end. Saw one town fella make a run down the touchline for the dug out to get at him, took four or five stewards to stop him. fairplay

Best bit for me was a heartfelt, vocal rendition of We'll Never Die whilst the players lined up for the restart after Cox scored. There was quite a lengthy pause, the ref held things up for some reason, the home fans were in shock - in which they seemed to remain for the rest of the game - and it just felt like everything kind of stopped for a minute there....a last defiant call from the terraces, a moments thought for all...made me well up a bit if I'm honest. Its been an emotional week you understand!

he played in the Makele position and did ok. i think if we had 2 capable wide men and cox up top instead of sturrock and ifil and vincent back we would have a decent team.

smith/brezovan

smith alojfree ifil vincent
allen
mcgovern easton pook roberts
        cox

i reckon that would be cream.
But the fountain of footballing knowledge that is DV says playing Allen is stupid. And that Byrne is useless...so playing Allen in a formation employed by Byrne can't possibly work?!

Where did I say that?

I've only seen him a few times but I like Allen as a player. He looks composed on the ball and his distribution is very clever.

I think technically he's a better player than Pook.

I like to see him play more to be honest.

Most of local pub support Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea, apart from three or four Reading and TWO, yes TWO Swindon fans they are always giving it large, so if this score stays the same, then TWO OUT OF THREE AIN'T BAD and they will get plenty of stick, come on Middlesbrough.
