Have we had a better 'headerer' of the ball since Wayne Allison?
But then again, we did pay 500k!
You usually get what you pay for. Unless your name is Gary Alexander. Its a good question....suppose in the 10 years since the Chief left....Mooney would run him close.

Hmmmm.
The mention of Mooneys name at the moment (in the open play goal drought) makes me feel almost as nausious as when I 1st heard we were letting him go.

Mooney was excellent in the air, don't remember much of the Chief though. Peacock's pretty decent in the air but gives away too many fouls in the process.

Hindsight's a great thing but we should really have held onto him at all costs.

Hindsight's a great thing but we should really have held onto him at all costs. I think the hurt of Mooney's defection to the scum....compounded the disappointment of the end on 03/04. It also clouded rational analysis, at the time Mooney believed he'd done enough to merit a contract extension, then complained about his treatment. On hindsight loooks like classic Newbury, got a bit alarmed over bonus payments, costs etc and so looked to trim the wage bill at the expense of the playing side.

Devlin left for QPR that season. The Mooney debacle was classic Newbury. Classic drip feed funding for the team.
Mooney did fall away. But even his performances in march were still far superior to the players we are putting out now. Not that it matters.
