Hadn't seen it mentioned here, but saw on the BBC today that Martin Ling hasn't been well and has missed the last four Torquay games.

Hope it's nothing too serious. Get well soon Lingy.

Benson for Cheltenham.
And Pack...I know he's not a former player but he will be one day if we actually get to sign him.

I probably have missed it somewhere but I didn't realise Martin Ling was so ill, not been present for the last 4 Torquay games, hope he gets better soon.

Torquay chairman Simon Baker says the club still has no idea when manager Martin Ling will be well enough to resume his duties.

Ling missed a fourth successive match on Tuesday night and the club still does not know what is wrong with the 46-year-old former Leyton Orient boss.

"We're hoping by the end of the week we'll know a prognosis," Baker said.

"I have been pressing the League Managers' Association who act for him and look after him," he told BBC Devon.

I was at the last press conference that Martin Ling held almost three weeks ago and it was clear he was not 100%.

But nobody would have foreseen that he would miss the next four matches.

His absence has spawned all sorts of conspiracy theories amongst Torquay fans and the fact that the club do not know the seriousness of his illness will worry supporters even more.

"It's a worrying time for his family and the most important thing is Martin, his family and his health.

"As soon as we know anything concrete we'll tell the world.

"Whatever happens we'll get through this and support Martin and his family."

In Ling's absence, assistant manager Shaun Taylor has taken over first-team duties and was the driving force behind Elliot Benyon rejoining the Gulls on loan earlier this week.

Baker says he has offered Taylor the chance to bring in some extra coaching help, but Taylor is happy with the team he has.

"It's something that's been on our minds," said Baker. "We have talked to Shaun about this already, he's said 'no'. He's happy with the team around him.

"He's drafted in Robbie Herrera from the youth side to help him.

"Shaun knows if he needs some help we'll get him it, but it's his call."

No idea what the illness is but it sounds pretty bad, fingers crossed its nothing too serious for him.

On the plus side at least Shaun Taylor is getting a bit of team management under his belt.

UNITED manager Martin Ling is currently being treated for a debilitating illness.

He is receiving specialist care and, while we are able to report that he is making some progress, it is anticipated that Martin will be away from work for several weeks.

Any further statement will only be issued when it is appropriate to do so and, until then, the Club would ask that the privacy of Martin’s family be respected.

The Club and the League Managers Association are both fully supportive and are looking forward to his return

In the meantime, United officials have held discussions with assistant manager Shaun Taylor and we have agreed to actively seek an experienced coach to help Shaun with the running of the team. This process has already begun in earnest.

That sounds bad, most likely one of the big C's.

My thoughts go out to him in this fucking difficult time, I know how he feels after my scare recently with cancer.

Just stay strong Lingy and I hope it isn't life threatening or that will cease his career in the future either.

Get well soon Martin.

Personally I wouldn't be shocked to hear of Paul Bodin going there to help out things....for a fee of course.
